Honestly, I’m happy she was able to realize that this was an accident. The amount of people who thought that a 12 year old purposefully killed his older sister and yet clearly feels awful about it and has been wildly traumatized to the point of becoming a hikikomori and hiding the truth in basically happy crayon drawings for 4 years, is exhausting.

And he obviously loves her a lot. You wouldn't do that on purpose to someone you love so much, especially as a kid. I know I do this with other games where the MC is not mute or anything. Saying We instead of I, or referring to the character as Us instead of their namesake (though I do, of course, use their names sometimes. I did notice me referring to Sunny himself, without it being because of a dialogue box.

I’d say that when he reaches the stairs at around 5:15, the music sounds like it’s this very abstract rendition of the white space theme, with many notes surrounding it. It’s this mix of like, familiarity, with a small bit of relief and yet unfamiliar. It’s also interesting that the familiarity brings relief, since the theme is associated with both white space and Mari, the truth and its repression. It’s this comfort that in the moment is way better than trying to figure out the truth.
@NiennaFan1 Жыл бұрын
I always interpreted it as the truth haunts you even in the safest place - like repression just makes it worse! After all, Mari's memorial photo is in Neighbor's Room itself, Mari's hair hangs down from Red Space whose function is to repress the truth, and the duet plays in the Neighbor's Bedroom BGM!

You might wanna find another playthrough of this game because there's a lot that happened. But yes, you do eventually find him in the dream world. Just.. not in a good place. 😬
@Shythalia Жыл бұрын
This part was in Night 3 I think. [Spoilers just in case you still want to watch another playthrough blind.] In Day 3, you, Hero, & Kel went to find Aubrey and started getting along again. They went to Basil's but his caretaker said he was at the hospital because his grandma's about to kick the bucket. So you 4 spent the day hanging out then went to your old treehouse at your backyard. But the tree stump where Mari "died" was there so you 4 reminisce about it for a moment, then went to the treehouse. Then Aubrey ran out to the stump and finally admits why she started acting the way she is. She thought everyone was just forgetting about Mari but she just didn't realize that they were all dealing with their grief differently. She also admitted why she hated Basil. She thought he ruined the photos of Mari. (It was actually Sunny, but no one knew except Basil.) They hugged it out. Afterwards, you 4 went to Basil's but he locked himself in his room so you 4 decided to stay over at his house to be close to him. And then you return to Headspace. I don't remember though how you get to this nightmare part in the dream world. More happened after finding out the truth of Mari's passing but I don't wanna put them all here.
@genericname2747 Жыл бұрын
Yeah we find dream Basil. Here's what happened, and why he disappeared (spoilers of course) Basil remembers the truth of Maris death, and Omori will not let him tell Sunny what happened. Omori is like, the personification of Sunnys subconscious, depression, and guilt over Maris death. His purpose is to hide the truth from Sunny. You eventually find Basil in a place called Black Space, which is the representation of Sunnys fears and repressed memories. Then he dies. You find him again, and he dies again. He just dies whenever you find him. Then you leave Black Space. But he comes back again, as you see in this video. And he can FINALLY help Sunny remember.

I got spoiled on her stream. I would be mad but he stream was the reason I played the game in the first place. I cried so hard after her stream. I wish I could actually experience this game for the first time. 😭. But it’s okay because I would have never played Omori.

when I heard jaiden say "Wait She Was Still alive" I started to have my blood kinda boil, mainly because its a pretty big misconception, because of the fact that she war extremely bloodied, didn't breath for multiple hours, and 2 children had ease with holding her means that she was already dead, about the 2 children thing, I thino Omari and Basil would still have trouble holding her if she was alive, as we basically increase our own wieght when were alive

Is it really weird? Throughout the whole last part of omori i thought just in 1st person. This is probably the only game that got me thinking like that. The guilt was conveyed extremely well. I don't feel it from Jaiden tho, this whole reaction seems pretty off to me, but i think it's the issue of streaming and talking to your viewers. Kinda feel bad for her, cuz that probably made the experience less impactful.

As someone whos a huge fan of omori and its characters, watching this is reminding me that while the execution of this reveal is really effective and gripping, the actual concept behind it suffers so much from a visible hand of the author, and actively dampens the impact of the events of the story, at least in my opinion. Like, in terms of themeing, prior to this reveal omoris themes were incredibly universal and applicable to anyone, specifically in regards to depression and suicide as suicide is obviously a tragedy, but more than that its COMMON. Most people will be affected by suicide or suicidality at some point in their lives, whether it be their own or others and having a place to explore the ways in which people experience the aftermath and how they grieve was incredibly impactful for me and was seriously what made the characters as interesting as they were imo. Hero is one of the characters Im most attached to in the story simply because of the way he dealt with maris death. He never really recovered or got closure, but after what happened with kel at the bottom of his downward spiral, hero recognized that there were other people who needed him and who he had the the capacity to help, that he couldnt halt the flow of time in hopes that it could eventually move backwards. Now, we take that fucking beautiful character development for him, realizing that he has to exist in the present no matter how painful it might be in hopes that the people who are there will make it better, and recontextualize it under the twist of the end. Where does that leave us? Where does that leave the characters? How do they cope with this? Its never explained. We're just led to believe that everythings fine between everyone, but never shown how they reach that point, which is literally so hard to believe for a lot of people that its a fucking joke in the community that after the good end kel hero and aubrey just beat the shit out of sunny and basil BECAUSE LIKE. YEAH. THATS KIND OF A HARD PILL TO SWALLOW. You think it was hard for you, the player, who had to go through like 30 plus hours of this game under the belief that mari had killed herself only to find out the truth? Imagine being one the main party members, having known mari for most of your conscious life, having her be such an important part of your community, HELL HAVING HER BE YOUR PICTURE PERFECT PARTNER, believing that she had killed herself for 2 years without any indication as to why, all while being seperated from your entire central community during the emotional aftermath only to find out the truth from two kids who had purposefully avoided you during that entire time. Taking all this into consideration, I find it REALLY hard to believe that you would be so rational as to see these events from their perspective, and like, I dont even think thats unjustified frankly. You were traumatized by these people, in ways that so easily could have been avoided or at least could have been mitigated. Its really hard to realize that when people are that young that they cant really be held accountable for their actions when they hurt you so fucking much. So yeah, ultimately the reveal sequence left me literally saying out loud "are you fucking kidding me?" because it really felt like omocat was just using the emotional exploration as a front to get some cheap shock out of the player which is so disappointing. After looking forward to seeing how everyones relationship would be resolved and feeling like that was what the story was leading to, the reveal felt so cheap, like it was simply there because there had to be some kind of spoiler content or whatever. Idk I just spent the last like half an hour writing this and now Im burnt out I hope that makes sense, I dont want to tell anyone they shouldnt appreciate this sequence, I just felt like theres so many people who just kind of take these story beats very uncritically and thats sort of frustrating to me

3 weeks late and its new years but just wanna say, as much as i disagree, i understand completely how you feel. At first this game felt like a pretty great exploration of mental health, alongside the beautiful tale of people living with grief. The twist at the end was so shocking and changed the core of the story so much that i quarelled on how i feel about the game overall. However, at the end i realize that it rlly doesn't throw the many hours of the game under the bus. So i will say that this game DID NOT forsake them for shock value. Before i give my 2 cents, but first i'll say that i agree that i wish they gave a resolution or more character moments that truly tells us what these characters will do when the truth hit them.. altho it could very much be there and i missed it. The tale of grief was not thrown under the bus. Overshadowed, maybe, but the story remains there and untainted. Hero and Aubrey's story remains a beautiful tale of how grief can wreck someone that isn't prepared, especially when that grief came from a person's suicide. As we know, Mari didn't actually die from suicide, so that shifts the main theme of the story of Sunny and Basil into living with guilt more than it is about grief. The tale of grief remains, and it does add to the tale of guilt. They didn't write the tale of grief just to give the truth more shock, they write it to give Sunny a reason to feel so GUILTY, to let the players understand just how much pain he and basil had caused to their friends, and as such helps make you feel more for the pain that they too is feeling. So then lets go to the bad endings : Either Basil or Sunny or worse, BOTH die by their own hands and none of their friend knew Mari's true death. We saw how it affected them when Mari died. Maybe they can move on, but we know they don't deserve this pain. Their character moments not only give context into the truth and thematic meaning of sunny's story, it also add gravity to them. It makes Sunny's hatred of himself that leaked during Omori's battle hit harder, because we see these character's pain in real time. And we also feel worse for the bad endings, because sunny didnt need to die- because maybe their friends can forgive him- and because we see the hope these characters regained, and to take it away from all these poor kids is too cruel.

I know that it can feel like the emotional exploration was just to add weight for "shock value" (which i disagree with). And i know it can also feel like they ruined the story of grief with the truth. But as someone whose mental health fell into such a slippery slope because of feeling guilty, i cannot look at the truth sequence as anything remotely close to a shock bait. When i realize why sunny has been repressing the memories of his sister so much, why he felt so much like shit, why he had to escape to his dream, it helps me feel so much for him. The story was already rlly good with the mental health and grief exploration, but the truth elevates it for me because that level of fucked upness HELPS in communicating to me : if I was in this position, how can i keep on living? That truth sequence alone made me look at the whole headspace and black space differently. To me who favored the real world the whole game, headspace and black space meant a lot more when i understand what he went through. Feeling like we were stolen a resolve of these kids overcoming the grief is annoying, but i can get over it because how could we feel like we deserve closure when we were part of the reason this even happened? Exactly. That's what the entire endgame was about. Sunny letting himself believe that he deserves to go on, to get closure. Starts by wanting to save Basil, and eventually remembering his friends' love for him as the wordss of his head struck him down, it all leads to him finally waking up and telling the truth. None of that would rlly work if we don't feel for these characters, see their growth. See how they reunite. I wouldn't feel Sunny's self loathing if i didn't know how much Aubrey and Hero loved her. I wouldn't feel like there is a point of going on if not for his friends' loving support we see throughout 3 days. Yes, we don't rlly know if they will forgive him. Not enough character moments to give us closure on wether or not they will forgive us(and heck, that alone made it feel like the ending is unsatisfying because it felt like no buildup was there at all!) But i think it's a massive disservice to the game to think that this was just here for shock value. I don't blame you tho, but i'm sharing to you why this sequence and the truth elevates the game for me. I don't think it's uncritical at all, only that the tale of forgiveness is strong enough for people to overlook it
