Rank is a giant shmup umbrella term that can be a pretty huge factor but it's really simple in Touhou. Survival time without dying or bombing raises the rank and it maxes out after like a stage, dying dumps you back to the lowest rank. Higher rank increases bullet speed and density. It maxes out really fast and it doesn't really make a huge difference in Touhou.

***** Eeeh... Rainbow Danmaku is all about pacing. Stream slowly or you'll simply be trapped over and over. Stream up and down for the first part until the spinning starts, then stream across the bottom of the screen. I have a spellcard practice run showing what you should generally do here: replays.gensokyo.org/download.php?id=36756 That being said I do screw it up a little at the end. Hourai Jewel (hard/luna version of rainbow danmaku), on the other hand? That can go kill itself. Jesus christ it's difficult.

Ori I know the theory behind it. The problem is execution.Especially because the trails are very slow and take a long time to go away. It's hard to tell when you should start streaming to the right when the bullet is in your way. Not to mention the rainbow bullets move surprisingly faster than the streams.

***** Honestly the main problem for rainbow danmaku is clipping the rainbow bullets once you have the pace down. Have you seen Hourai Jewel on lunatic? Not a funny sight. Jeez, the hard version alone took me 45 attempts to capture. For the comparison, it took me all of 2 attempts to get that timeout.

Over the years I totally forgot the fridge horror of this game. Fail to retrive the essence of spring -> Gensokyo dies in an eternal winter due to the plants and animals dieing off and then everyone else would starve or freeze to death as well. Even worse, if Yuyuko would have succeeded in her plan not only would it have destroyed her own soul it also would have awaked an Eldritch Abomination that lurs everyone to itself and then forces them to sleep, making them die to starvation as well. O.o"

No, that's just a safespot. Althought that does raise this question: Why do people find fighting Icicle Fall on Easy is so hard? Heck, Normal is the exact same spellcard but with aimed bullets, which A: remove the safespot and B: make dodging it normally a heck of a lot harder.

In other words if she suceed she will be in eternal oblivion instead of a rebirth.

Yes. And it has nothing to do with difficulty levels. It's not really that noticeable in PCB and every game after that dropped the concept altogether, but it's very noticeable in EoSD and the PC-98 games.

Well the butterflies are aimed so you want to slowly stream them and restream through the slow leftover ones. While of course keeping an eye out for the bubbles. I dunno, it's been a long time since I played it. If you time it well you might be able to finish off the last hard part without having to turn around.

I succeeded on my first attempt of a 1cc with Sakuya A, but man was it nerve-racking towards the end. I made it to Resurrection Butterfly with no lives and no bombs remaining, but with only 10-15 point blocks required to get an extra life. I needed to survive a good three or four waves of the attack before I was able to accrue that many, since I was a ways off from a supernatural border. Now of course, I’d gotten a 1cc with Marisa B prior to this, so I knew how to dodge Resurrection Butterfly, but god was it anxiety-inducing to realize that I was so close to success, and that one screw-up meant I was done. I ended up getting the extra life and then immediately getting hit, thankfully restocking my bombs. I then bombed through the remaining 20 seconds or so of the attack because fuck taking risks.
