Delhi’s Jain community raised Rs 15 lakh and then went to Old Delhi markets to purchase goats. They bargained hard, bought 124 goats, and kept them in the courtyard of the now-famous temple in Chandni Chowk. ThePrint visited the Naya Jain temple in Old Delhi to speak with community members about their plans and reasons for buying the goats.

This is a clever scheme I must say. You buy a few goats and launch a FB fund collector. Investment Max 1L. Pick a convenient day which will provide free publicity for a cause that many will identify with. Money collected till date of interview 15L. He said he has "invested" 11-12L on the goats. And we must believe this is all for the good of the animal. It will be interesting to visit them next month and see what they did with the animals. I could not find any Jeev Daya Sansthan in UP that works in animal shelters. The ones that go by that name are mostly providing free education. I'm sure they don't plan to eat them. You buy 124 small goats on the premise that you can save more lives that way. Feed them for a few weeks, they are bound to grow. Sell them to Al Kabeer for a neat profit there too. These boys will do the nation proud one day.

Goats/Dolphins/cats/dogs/cows etc are very consciousness animals capable to feel pain/sadness so much that they mis their loved ones/owners/children etc We can always choose to spare them and eat plants,which feels far lesser pain due to its very low consciousness and lack of nervous system. The lower the consciousness the lower will be the self identify and pain,hence plants feels lesser pain, which is why they are consumed than animals ,so we become cause of lower pain. The whole point of living should be centred on minimizing the pain for others with whatever possible.

Salute to our Jain brothers for doing their best. People are criticising them by saying why not fight KFC or McDonalds or why do it on Bakr Eid when people donate the meat to poor who otherwise could not afford it. But they are just practicing what their religion has taught them. And it is not easy to fight MNCs and government but they can save a couple hundred goats. But there is one problem with this act of kindness. Majority of animals sold on Eids period are bred commercially and not all of them are always sold and demand is capped and so is supply. If they keep buying them every year then the commercial farm will simply breed even more for growing demand and more profit

If we stop consuming dairy products can save a big no of animals.

They didn't even criticise Muslims for following that but just saved the male animals which at least won't give milk or other stuff. Both are following their religion. For you to ask them to dress like Muslims and not like non-Muslims because disguising as Muslims would be easier to do mool-bhav which won't be that effective after knowing about belonging to other community people. They wanted to rescue as many as they could. They raised that campaign within their community and to make them aware of how their contribution worked they uploaded it. How do you draw your last conclusion just based on guesswork as you yourself noted that you are yet to see what they do on Kali Puja? Is your comment not showing your bias? Also, it is important to learn things before commenting or else you would look stupid. No animal sacrifices are specially done during Durga Puja. Navratri celebrated in the South involves eating only one vegetarian meal a day for nine days, leave aside eating meat on those days. And in the East in Bengal, there are no particular restrictions on eating meat so people eat what they please, which is just similar to what they do the rest of the year so no extra animal sacrifices are made. This is just one of the incident that has been highlighted in the news but jains do these kind acts on daily basis which are not highlighted as they are done in individual capacity. Raza, did you hear about the 550 people who died in Mecca from heat stress? Just wondering. 30+ amongst them were Indians. Animal agriculture is the second biggest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. Research the science that we now have available to confirm this. The animal agriculture industry contributes more greenhouse gas emissions than the global transportation industry. These 550 humans must have all sacrificed animals and were there to pay their respects to their god. I feel so sad that he didn't come to help them. Happened in Badrinath too. A family died in an accident while they were on their way to offer prayers. Their god didn't come to help them either. They exploit donkeys and horse to climb to get to the temple and these animals are being abused and many are dying. I think the gods are sick and tired of us. We do such terrible things in his name. There are Hindus who sacrifice goats too at the Kali temple. I am puzzled as to how god and the devil can be made happy via animal sacrifice. I always believed god is merciful and benevolent and the devil is evil. Then how can slitting the throat of animal make BOTH of them happy? Am terribly puzzled.
