Thank you very much for this video about the backstrap loom of Karen people! It needs loads of creativity to get these pretty old ancient techniques into present times. Karen people by themselves must use the loin loom of this type at least about 2.000 years. Is there any Thai, you know, that have kept their loin loom alive? Thai people also used a loin loom, they exchanged centuries ago by Indian-style cotton weaving frame looms! Another lovely weaving technique in Thailand, but not their own authentic, so no creativity. Thai‘s creativity bases on the three world report of Himaphan, you may find relics of in the temple architecture, but not the concrete jungle of Khunthep. Even Karen weaving may lack the superior patterns of Bhutan weaving for example, it is still a breathtaking creativity to get keep culture that vivid. Even most backstrap weaving cultures of Southeast Asia are just aware about their cultural part, they all base on one or two basic sources foot loom cultures, that can be traced back at least 7.000 years. It‘s not the technique nor practice that made the foot loom. The foot loom is a cultural insignia of these nomadic tribes of the Yangtze area, so the whole thing isn‘t that much only a weaving, but putting their culture onto stage! „The theatre of the universe“, how Balinese people present their loin loom culture! When loin loom cultures reached Northeast India by crossing the Himalaya about 4.000 years ago, many of them brought that much creativity and assimilated with the Indian cultures. They had that strong impact, what led to the Yoga-movement coming up in that time. Someway this built the basic of the „birth of the Buddha“. By their assimilation power old legend of Himavanta and Jambudvipa came up in new light. Suvarnabhumi was born. And that‘s what the Creativity of Thai is reporting about in their national Epos of the three worlds: About the great creativity of these tribes of Northeast India, Thailand has derived its „alphabet“ of! They infected even Indonesia with their cultural mission, the Hinduism of Bali, the Borobudur on Java states about. Loads of ships with pilgrims and Buddhist scholars from Sri Lanka, Southern India and China have been attracted by the creativity of the Northeastern tribes in cooperation with the people of Champa and Malay people to visit Java in that time! And still now their relics are the main reason of tourist attractions all over SEA (Angkor Wat). Wat a eternal creativity just coming out of the hip! Try it and you‘ll discover the lack of modern creativity by yourself! A great honor to that elder lady! Djok di, khap!
