For all the people who are wondering, all the films that are sold have been made in North Korea by Studio SEK, it's a North Korean animation studio that made a lot of animated movies for Europe and the United States. For example Marcelino, Futurama Bender's Big Score, The Simpsons Movie, Avatar: The Last Airbender... And no, these are not Disney movies, they are "copies" made by Mondo World, an Italian company that makes its animations in North Korea.

As a person from Eastern Europe who grew up in similar environment, there are some things that I miss now (the little traffic, the times when shop vendors gave you their stuff for closer inspection no problem without worrying that you would steal them not paying, the incredible amount of open space in the neighborhoods, the absence of noise and light pollution...). Then there are of course many things I wouldn't miss at all. But it's nice to see there are still countries in the world that remind me of my youth.

One thing I have noticed, Jaka, in your videos is about the girls who run these stands, or the girls who work the cash registers at the stores you have been in. There may not be any customers around, but these girls/women are CONSTANTLY busy, doing something. Clicking away on the cash registers....writing things down on tickets...or like this girl at the DVD stand--she is constantly rearranging or shuffling or restacking her DVD's. A job I'd have finished in 20 minutes. Yet, these women are always busy. I don't understand it. What are they doing? How can they always be doing something? Is there that much work to do? Or are they making an effort just to appear busy all of the time? Like at the "privileged stores" in your other videos-- the women who were at the checkout counter were always clicking away with the mouse connected to their terminal, or writing things down on tickets or in books. They are NEVER just standing there looking like there is nothing to do. Why is this? With hardly any customers, there simply cannot be something to do all of the time. Like the girl running this DVD kiosk, she is constantly doing something!!
@sagelovescoffee8 жыл бұрын
Maybe because they DO know they are being filmed and don't want to appear like they are lazy and may get in trouble? Usually employees make themselves look busy when someone important is on the premises or nearby. Maybe that's why? So this could all be fake just to show that NK is a "great" place.

all those western american shows are actually remade in North Korea to their own liking by the government. A lot of it changed into propaganda. All the evil characters in those may be changed to Americans possibly

+Martin Sanchez That's what I was thinking, but I'm thinking that maybe the blogger has a restricted area where he can film. I believe most if not all of this bloggers videos are from Pyongyang. Pyongyang is the most advanced and richest part of the country. The suburbs and countryside are something I'm pretty sure that won't look anything like these videos. These videos can be propaganda themselves, for showing the city only. Again I could be wrong.

+Martin Sanchez They are not tourists, they worked in Pyongyang. Maybe there's lots of laws that we don't know. *Sorry for my bad english

In watching the video he posted about buying street food in Pyongyang, you can see a guy at the beginning of the video, after the host exits his car, who is walking down the street holding a black briefcase. Later in the video, after the host and his companion have eaten, the same guy can be seen again as they walk back to their car. I wonder if he's some sort of monitor.
