Love this. Singer from one of my two favourite bands, playing with my other favourite band.

Was lucky enough to be at both nights and was too young/skint to go to the bar so sat and watched Joy Division too... Brilliant gig!

Good comment ,i remember one critic saying that they were a big influence on `modern rock` I.E groups like Faith No More.

Yeah, I was at that gig, pissed out off my brains and JD did indeed support!

@NewWavePunk It clearly states in John Robbs blog that Peter Hook was a huge fan and I have read JD used to see them live. It was Mr Wilson who hated the Stranglers because of the way they treated music journalists, and of course the bust up's with Clash and Sex Pistols. Tne Stranglers became the band they loved to hate, when in fact at the start they had a lot of respect. The early Stranglers sound was a heavy influence on Joy Division (and on U2 as well) It's an official fact.

@NewWavePunk Yes I know that Ian was not a big fan but the rest of the band were. On w w w. gibson. c o m there is a feature entitled 'Peter Hook talks Joy Division and Bass heroes and states that his bass playing is essentially JJ Burnel from the Stranglers and the pose of Simonon from the Clash. There has been a lot of misinformation regarding the Stranglers over the years and a lot of hype attached to the importance of the other bands. However The Stranglers did'nt help themselves either.

I was there both nights it was memorable and chaotic but they did it and it stuck 2 finger up to our so called judicary . Man if Pete (I'm not a junkie) Doherty was around in them days He would have been locked up and the key thrown away lol

@femellabates and everyone, I think I've been misunderstood, I am a massive Stranglers fan and only have Joy Divisions best of. I was merely trying to say that the Stranglers constantly changed whereas Joy Division pretty much stole the Stranglers image during 1977/78 and the sound, but expanded it and went off on one path. I was saying in fact the Stranglers influenced so much but never received recognition. My early post was clumsily phrased.

Was at the gig on the 4th and that was the night joy division played i was just a wee daft laddie and thought Joy Division were pish ( how many bands have a missed cause of this lol) so i fecked of to the bar. Got back in time to see Iain Curtess have a wee problem on stage and i think their set was cut short.

Ian Curtis lost control of his bladder?! Sounds embarrassing but surely he could've just changed his trousers and carried on?

H Stevie - yeah Joy Division were great fans of the Stranglers and were greatly influenced but not in a plagarist sense, clearly Joy Division expanded a great idea and took it to places the Stranglers could never go both in mood and image.
