Actor Jake Gyllenhaal joins Reel Pieces Moderator Annette Insdorf for an onstage conversation and Q&A about his new film, Stronger.
In Stronger, directed by David Gordon Green, he plays a survivor of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. The true story of Jeff Bauman is an inspirational drama that includes powerful performances from Miranda Richardson as his hard-drinking, working-class mother and Tatiana Maslany as his girlfriend.

Everytime I listen to him talk, I am hit with the realization that he's so, so incredibly intelligent, and on top of that, he knows how to fathom his thoughts and ideas in eloquent language. It's truly inspiring, all his interviews. What an absolute delight it is to listen to him. His family did something right that he turned out the way he did. Cheers to them. P.S. I love how in awe he is of the Mauryan empire. An infinitesmal mistake that the ruler was a dictator (he was not, but that's up for debate).

This is the best interview I've ever seen... that was beautiful, Jake is all love, I respect him so much as an actor and as a person too. I mean he was sick but he went to the conference anyway!. And omg that Heath ledger's impression he did!! "Prisoners" is one of my favorite films of all time. When I first watched it, I immediately rewound it and watched it again. The subject matter is difficult, but the acting is BRILLIANT. They all deserved Oscar nominations for that. I was so annoyed when they were all snubbed.

16:50-19:40 I was wandering about that question because I assumed it was coming and giving his latest emotional and, teary response to it in another interview I was waiting to hear him talk about it, and he just seems so heartbroken, and exposed and in his own deep, little, beautiful bubble and I could almost feel the tears in his mouth the whole time. It's painful and educating and fascinating to watch and I really want to keep diving into his soul and I hope he's going to get better because he is not right. And I love him. And was born December 17th which is two days before him (and 11 years later but, oh well...) I'm really privileged to feel that connection to him.
