I feel like there was a period in his career that he didn't like to do interviews... Maybe based on projects or his comfort level... Whatever that may be... Generally people allow themselves to be more genuine if they’re in their comfort zone. An audience is intimidating for many people. What Steve said about himself however is an example of the opposite - there are people who can draw energy from an audience. The audience itself makes them feel at home. Ultimately, it depends on the kind of person you’re interviewing and the host themselves. But yes, video interviews were a refreshing new thing during this pandemic.
