In case anyone doesn't know - Jake Hooker contributed nothing to the writing of I Love R N R! I interviewed Alan Merrill a couple of years ago for Vive Le Magazine he'll tell the whole story! Good bit of bull from Jake though!!

Mark Mcstea Agreed! I’m a good friend of Alan and knew this also! What really sucks is Joan Jett never gives him credit in ANY interview ever.

@@Mytube777 I hate social media pile-ons but I love that she's getting stick on Twitter now for that. Even if it because of such sad circumstances.

Alan owed Jake some money so giving Jake writing credits on a couple of songs would pay him back for it. It paid him back with interest. That money he lent Alan must have been the best investment Jake made.

CandleLight1974 Yes you are probably right. I remember a few years ago Alan told me he found out that Jake did indeed sell his part of the publishing and ended up with a pretty Penney. Alan told me he hung on to his part and now with his recent passing 😢 RIP I’m sure it now is owned by his wife JoAnne and his kids by his previous marriage. ALSO I remember in 1986 I briefly knew Paul Varley, he was living in my apartment building in Los Angeles and he, too was telling anyone that would listen to him that he wrote the song and that Alan and Jake took all the credit lol but of course that wasn’t true. Alan was such a kind person that he would make sure that Varley received his royalty checks and tried helping him get off the streets when Paul was homeless. I’m really going to miss Alan😢

@@Mytube777 Yes, I would assume that the rights to his music and the rest of his estate will be split between his wife and three children (he also has a daughter from his second marriage) but ours is not to speculate about anyone's will. Paul was of course entitled to a percentage royalty under performer's rights but I had heard about him helping Paul out in several ways. By many accounts, Alan was as beautiful a soul as he was on the outside. I have a photo with him, sitting on his lap, but I was only two years old so I don't remember. My elder sister was a big fan and her godfather was a chef at a restaurant in Notting Hill that Alan used to go to and we happened to be there one day when he was there too. I've yet to find any bad word said about him. I don't like to wish ill on anyone but there are so many wastes of space on the planet and a damned pandemic doesn't take them but takes good ones instead.
