I wrote a somber story for this song. Read while you listen. You find the perfect girl. Her smile, her personality, her natural beauty, her love. A few years later you get married, things are going great. A couple years pass and it's your 3rd anniversary, you've got a special dinner planned at that restaurant that she thinks is too fancy for people like "us." She's with her best friend at a hair appointment getting ready. You're at the restaurant waiting for your bride. Thirty minutes pass... an hour... two hours... in between telling the waiter that you're expecting someone and nervously sipping wine, you get a call. It's the friend she was with. She is crying and barely making any sense. All you can make out is "She's gone." Your heart sinks, but you immediately rush out to your car and make your way to the nearest hospital. On your way there you see a car that looks like your wife's... but its torn to pieces, and an ambulance is on the scene. You freeze in shock. You cant think. A first responder comes up to your window and asks if you knew the people involved in the wreck, and that's when you lose it. You open the door but you collapse to the ground in utter dispair, he helps you to your feet and tells you that he's sorry but she didnt make it. You push him away and begin running to the ambulance but the other responders hold you back because it had to go to the hospital. You get back in your car and rush to the hospital nearly beating the ambulance, you see them bring her in on a stretcher. You plea to just tell her you love her, but again they hold you back. They tell you to come back tomorrow when things have calmed and they have gathered their thoughts. You slowly walk back to your car, not paying attention to anything but the thoughts in your mind. After her funeral you make your way back to your apartment and watch as the rain starts to fall. You finish that bottle of wine that she opened a few weeks prior and you sleep, sleep is your only solace. Sunday comes and you barely make it to the church before the service starts. You hear the hymns but they don't add up to your pain. But you notice something, something is pulling you. You give in to it. You cant fight what you're feeling, you walk to the altar and crumble and just lay there. In front of everyone you lay there while they sing. You lay there through all the songs and the whole sermon. Yes people are looking at you weird, but nothing matters to you anymore. You get up after the closing prayer and leave to uncomfortable stares, but they just don't know.
