WHEN MASKS COME DOWN was the first song we wrote together in the studio for the Trio project.
We started with a key in mind and began to improvise until we played something we all liked.
The biggest challenge with this song was trying to make it work without a drummer.
However, with the absence of drums, I can hear all of the subtle nuances in the guitar, bass and ukulele.
It’s a fun song to perform in front of an audience.

It sounds great, but I miss the old Jake, just a guy with a ukulele, didn't have the guitarist or the drum machine or bassist, just a ukulele and magic hands. But I do like this music, with everyone else it feels like Pure Heart.

Jake's older music is still the best. This newer stuff doesn't even sound like Jake. I'm disappointed.

Sarah N True. Maybe his sound is changing but I think the bass and guitar take away from the pureness of the ukulele. His old songs had more originality. These new ones seem so strange.

Amen! Before I could immediately hear the uke, not now. I still like his music, but just prefer his old style so much more. His old music sounded Hawaiian to me and I love going to Hawaii. It always reminds me of being in Hawaii when I hear it.
