I remember "Leaping" Lanny Poffo being the first opponent of Jake's WWF career. Lanny did things that were ahead of its time like the springboard moves. RIP to the aerial genius, Lanny Poffo.

Sunday, March 16, 1986, I was at the Garden that day and remember Lanny trying that move and landing on Jake. I didn't realize he hurt Jake that bad. Lanny did make me laugh with his poem for Jake before that match.

Just search Jake Roberts vs Lanny Poffo and its the first one that comes up. The part from this video comes up at about 6:50 in the match.

Lanny focused on his health. Boasted about outliving younger people than he was. Now, here we are. Jake The Snake Roberts with all his past baggage. His hearts still beating. Life is ironic, and tricky.

The heart is the one part of your body that will get you sooner or later if you are unlucky, no matter how healthy you are. Lany, like you said, is one prime example. Jake Roberts, Hulk Hogan, and Ric Flair still being alive is pretty damn amazing considering the abuse they put their bodies through. Personally, I think the Poffo family has a heart issue.

The Iron Sheik liked to say he (and lots of other people) was "half & half" Lanny called him out on it and Sheik had to admit "he is not half & half" Anyone who could make the Sheik back down from his crazy level of mouthing off, had to be pretty stout. RIP to the Paffo father and sons.

...I used to see Leaping Lanny & Macho Man back in the 70's-80's when they were in Atlantic Grand Prix Wrestling. Them and Leo Burke, Big Steven Pettipa, Cuban Assassin, The CarpetBagger, Killer Karl Krupp. Had Randy's autographed 8×10 once but ripped it up one day cause I was mad at how he just attacked Leaping Lanny at last night's show 😂 Kinda regret that now.
@65if2007 Жыл бұрын
Hmmm. He seems to remember Lanny pretty fondly for the most part. But is JTS aware of the KZbin video that shows Lanny and Honky Tonk Man together in which Lanny follows up on one of HTM's scalding remarks about JTS with the observation, "In my opinion, there were only two gimmicks that were real: Andre was a Giant and Jake was a Snake"?

Jake secretly wishes he had Angelo Poffo for a Dad.
what makes these stories sad and him saying this, is Lanny in an interview with honky tonk man, said and I quote " the only two gimmick that were real in wrestling was Andre was a giant, and Jake was a snake". To me its sad that Jake has nothing but nice things to say about him, aside from his reasonable outburst. but Lanny said that about him.
@adamlane6453 Жыл бұрын
Jake is very open about who he was in the past. I imagine he'd agree with Lanny on that one. I don't think it's at all the betrayal you are portraying it to be.
