Mad Max needs a sequel. In my opinion this is what needs improvement: - story - different bosses (all the bosses in game were the same with different paint colour - better character development - fuel needs to be more rare or hard to find - more variable missions Combat, car combat, world doesn't need to be touched.
@WhiteWalter62112 жыл бұрын
I agree. Another thing I would say isn't needed but Definitely appreciated is a better soundtrack. it did the job but the soundtrack in the movie was like its own character. I played the game recently with the Fury road soundtrack in the background and it gave me CHILLS. If they made a more punchy soundtrack like that. That would be so sick.
@mandrews62822 жыл бұрын
This could have really been something in a sequel with modern tech. The closest we got was Rage 2, in the same engine with Avalanche involved. The world in Rage 2 has the look and feel of Mad Max. That game could have also done with a more cohesive and longer story as well.
@antestanic29642 жыл бұрын
I agree on everything except the fuel needs to be more rare. It would make the game boring. Imagine going to a convoy and your car just dies. I think the fuel management was fine, but more side missions, with an awesome story like in witcher 3, would do it good.

@joetroutt7425 Жыл бұрын
Fuel rarity is kind of a double edged sword. In the second installment of the Mad Max movie fuel shortage was the sole reason why the apocalypse happened but in Fury Road it's water. I'm just glad the fuel doesn't run out fast to have to fuel up so frequently. But yeah there are fuel cans everywhere. With "Gas town" looming in the horizon you would think that they control the flow of gas and limit it and the only way you could get gas was to siphon it from enemy vehicles once beaten.

The moment this became a platinum game in my mind was maybe 4 hours into the game I did this crazy car maneuver where I hooked an enemy vehicle, whipped him sideways off a makeshift ramp (myself included), throwing him into the convoy he was protecting, myself doing a barrel roll and landing on my wheel heading right into the fray. It legitimately felt like an action sequence right out of one of the movies. Nothing was janky, sound design is top notch. It was amazing. I went on to do more and test crazy combinations but that was by and large my favorite moment. It really drives home the desperation and overall theme.

Loved the 'risk it/play it safe' factor in the gameplay. The storm for example: you can go and weather it out in an outpost, or you can risk staying out and harpoon the crates for a huge scrap reward. Same is the minefields: almost all reviewer brings these up as the prime example of copy-paste activities on the map, but what it is is the same risk/reward opportunity. You can lead your pursuers into a minefield and you can be lucky/survive, and when they are being blown up, now that is the definition of REWARD for taking risk... amazing game.

Really love this game. Let's get my only gripe out of the way: The devs apparently didn't have time to fine tune the balancing, so if you're a completionist or just like to see all the side quests, you get a lot of resources that hurt the survival aspect a bit (e. g. water/fuel are no longer scarce). The game could really have profited from an active modding scene to alleviate that. Apart from that, it just nails the atmosphere of the setting. It is also the only source of lore (canon or not) you will find about the world and how it got to that state. Many people think there was a nuclear apocalypse in the setting but it was actually environmental collapse with some very, very strange side effects, like the storms in Fury Road/this a game. This version of climate collapse also made the oceans actually recede, so half of the game map is former ocean floor instead of normal desert, which lends itself to some interesting variations on the usual sandy levels found in games.

@@angelashinner I agree that the story doesn't really take off until the end, but it also has little opportunity to: Max is a character who's fundamentally lonesome, and it's tough to get the story to take off when in the first ten hours, he doesn't really interact with anyone but chumbucket. I think the character development makes more sense if you headcanon the game as a prequel to Fury Road, which makes absolute sense with the flashbacks in the film and the way max starts off, a feral man who very much looks to be roaming the "plains of silence." And it also jives with the idea that after killing Scrotus in the area around gas town, Immortan Joe would be hunting down his son's killer, leading to the intro of Fury Road.

A little, just a little mind you, more gunplay could have helped balance out the combat. Keep ammo limited and rare, as well as firearm types, and CQC could of been better. I don't like the hand to hand combat so much, to similar the Batman Arkham games system which I didn't like. Also fighting so many people at once hand-to-hand I dont buy in the slightest, even if it's just a game. Setting a future game near the Bullet Farm could help explain why ammo is more bountiful in that region, similar to how fuel is abundant around Gastown in the game.

It's still only 30 fps on PS5/PS5 but even with a intel i5 8400 and GTX 1060 3GB you can run it in 60 fps and with DualShock 4 on Steam and it's one of the best open world games I have played. I'm sure Days Gone team took some inspiration from it in terms of car/bike and refilling it with oil.

I still come back to Mad Max from time to time whenever I want a fun “shut your brain off” kind of game to play. I think the simplicity of the game’s narrative works because it IS Mad Max, that’s really all that world is. Hell, the entire plot of Fury Road was pretty much “they drive somewhere, then turn around and drive back.” But with Mad Max it’s not the destination that’s important, it’s the journey of getting there. That high octane fueled destruction and chaos that has pretty much become trademark of that universe at this point. The story isn’t complex because it doesn’t NEED to be complex. It’s just Max building a new car and tearing shit up.

I had just watched another person talk about revisiting this game, and really like it the second time. I'm not a fan of car games, driving mini games, or the like. However, this band hooked me in a way no other could. I wasn't looking forward to this game when it first came out, so I rented from Redbox for a weekend, and damn, what a game. I couldn't get enough of it. But after I sent it back, and kind of forgot about it until a year later. It was on sale, so I bought and just couldn't stop playing. I talk about this game a lot, it's one of my favorite ask time games. Hell, I'm still playing through trying to complete every side mission, minefield, and the like. It's nice to hear like-minded people talking about it as well. Also, but fan of The Order: 1886. I'm sad it won't get a sequel

I remember when this came out and the developers said they made essentially an infinite open world. Basically you could go to the edge of the map and then just keep driving until you ran out of gas and then you'd get out and start walking and finally run out of water and die - something like that anyway. Dope game over all though, sandstorms are insane in it.
@PlaidSuitPinstripeWorld2 жыл бұрын
Yes. Originally the edge of the map (the big nothing) was an infinite sized area that had hardcore survival elements built in. Unfortunately they cut that content so now entering the big nothing just kills you after 10-20 seconds.

Mad Max was one of my favorite games that came out that year. It definitely wasn't perfect and had repetitive mission design and structure but man was it a blast to just drive and make shit blow up with a pretty cool car customization for looks & combat. There were actually some good unique side missions that even had you go underground in some cases which was really cool and creepy. When I saw all the reviews bashing how repetitive & mediocre the game was I was honestly a bit surprised.. Maybe that's why we never got another Mad Max video game yet after that. This title stays up with titles like Rocksteady's Arkham series. The fact that they had the script from Miller himself and had consultation on development is amazing. Is part of those games developed with passion because the Devs loved the title. You are right in many points you made. As a closing statement I am proud it manage to harvest a Mad Max type of atmosphere all together, is not perfect but is great! PS: Here you go, you have a new subscriber. Keep up the good work.

Severely underrated title, story, gameplay, and moments that were just badass. Mad Max is an experience I will not forget, especially the spooky underground segments! Those were my favorites and finding old photographs to get an idea of what the world was like before SHTF I also want to add how orgasmic the car sounds with headphones every time you turn it on and start driving. The action is great, there is monotomy after a while but I think it really fits the overall story and personal dilemma Max himself faces every waking moment. The voice acting was top notch, Chumbucket was funny, Griffa was mysterious, Hope & Glory were tragic, Pink Eye was cool

The game that saved the open word genre. It's deceptively simple but there's just so much content in this game, it's ridiculous. The detail, the way each enemy campaign is a completely new experience, the locations are absolutely gorgeous and very intelligently designed.
