No-one will read this and so what. He's not being polite; he doesn't care. He knows what to do and say. Interviews like this do not afford us an insight into an artist's inner life. After the civil rights period I can't even remember a single interview his father ever gave AT All and Tom Petty spoke seriously with very few people - journalists, both Canadian. Wise to mistrust the media.

Wow Jakob in his early 40s looks a lot like Bob did in his early 40s only more clean shaven, bigger eyes, nicer cheekbones of course :D But he has the same voice, mannerisms, baggy eyes, same wry smile. And he's a hell of a writer in his own regard. Most sons or daughters of legends don't turn out to be nearly as awesome a musical artist as Jakob.

I think he has always been a lot like his dad and his struggle was to find his own voice, which he manifestly has. Tom Petty, someone whom I revere, got close with Dhani Harrison and Jacob Zimmerman/Dylan during that 2 year mind-blowing experience on tour; if he were still alive he would be the only reliable person to comment. When Petty;s bio came out the only thing he excised was an unfavorable observation about Bob Dylan; he felt that strongly. I grew up in the civil rights period in the '60s (ok I was 11 but a smart kid) and my Dad's huge present was a record player with 3 Dylan 45s, great moment. But I didn't like his Christian Evangelical period, nor his fascination with the Talmud -- I''m jewish and go to extremes but this was not a fecund period. The Heartbreakers tour in the late '80s backing him up was a turning point. And here is the problem; Jacob is a great artist, I think, and like an idiot I carry on about his father. He's a great musician; yes he looks like his Dad but how is that important?

Levon was in "the band" as in his dads band so a bit different. I saw Levon open once for John Fogerty he is a talent to play drums and sing simultaneously god rest his soul. I do not compare Jakob to Tom Hanks at all though.
