I've heard him live several times. This cannot be compared to anything from an entire era of recorded singing! His voice (actually haute-contre with an alto component - not a conventional countertenor), extraordinary stage expression, friendly, modest personality - this is what impresses.

The Franco Corelli of countertenors. His singing is intensely masculine. I feel but cannot identify what he is doing technically that produces this strong concentration of sound, especially in the lower register. He is ‘sui generis’ and not really comparable to the other prominent countertenors singing today, especially the sweet and fragile-voiced Jaroussky.

Magnificent concert, both with the orchestra and with the breathtaking voice (supple, powerful, sensitive, delicate) of J.J. Orlinski (Too bad for the costume, and for the German presenter who, and without subtitles, breaks the continuity of the concert. The absence of an audience is also a terrible handicap, everything seems to happen in an artificial world, brrrr.) (I really like the magnificent face of the theorbo player: he seems to come straight out of a painting by Giorgione...) 😍

I feel fascinated by the countertenor voice; not only because of its vocal requirement but also for the veiled appeal of the ambiguity of a male singing in such high pitch. In my humble opinion, maybe Scholl is technically the best, Fagioli, Cencic, Jaroussky... just right next, but absolutely no doubt, Orlinski is by far the sexiest of all countertenors on earth.
