Except everyone who sucks at it. No on will use them and they'll have to go figure out a something they're better at, or learn to improve ect. Your application is great. Sealing joints does 2 things: 1) Keeps moisture away from the base/sub-grade and prevents the base from pumping and eroding away. 2) Keeps non-compressibles from lodging in the joint. The joint is there to allow expansion and contraction of the slab. Hot/cold cycles. If a non-compressible stone, etc lodges in the joint, when the slabs expand, they squeeze up to the stone and causes a stress point that can cause the slab to crack. It’s routine maintenance to clean and reseal the joints. That stuff does not work on cracks. That’s a different repair.

@@nathanstephens2584 it takes around 5 years for driveways to develop problematic cracks. But it also depends on the company that installed it. What he did is better than nothing but if you want the joint to last the life of the caulk , you need to grind the top inch or so of the inside edges of the concrete . Also how you place the closed cell backing rod is very important. The caulk needs to be twice as thick at its point of contact with the concrete as it is in the middle of the joint so that when it stretches it is weaker in the center and is less likely to pull off the edges. A well laid joint will fail at the center of the joint and not pull off the edges , a very common cause of failure. Also , self leveling can be tricky. If you leave any gaps the caulk can escape under the backing rod. A trick is to have some regular body caulk ( a urethane caulk ) and use that to block any small gaps that the backing rod doesn’t cover.
@mitchellbell43132 жыл бұрын
Backer should be oversized, and not meant to prevent “seeping”; backer prevents a third anchor point to allow the sealant full movement and recovery. Breaker tape is sufficient as well. You need to chase the joint cleanly. Manufacturer’s rep here.
