The Nets came back and beat the Knicks in their third Summer League game on Tuesday, dialing up the defensive effort in a big way during the second-half comeback. Jalen Wilson has had a great Summer League so far, shooting 48% from three and proving he should have a spot in the rotation this coming season.
The Locked on Nets guys discuss Wilson’s play as well as the energy Noah Clowney is showing on the court. They also discuss more struggles from Dariq Whitehead.

The fact that Wilson almost went undrafted baffles me. Not only did he win a National Championship. He was also Player of the year and in a Power 5 Conference. I don't think that there were 51 guys that were better than him, but I'm glad that he landed with the Nets.

When poeple continue to chirp about how those picks won’t mean anything from the bridges trade I continue to point to who’s on this roster. Guys like clowney, Wilson, cam Thomas, claxton all have upsides to potentially being key pieces of winning teams. So yeah those picks do matter.

Wilson needs to start and play 35 mins a night. We can flip him at some point if he can put up numbers like DFS on a very reasonable deal. Dont foresee him on the team in the long term given his age and our timeline. If he shoots 40% from 3 could have tons of value

First I repeat whitehead has gained 35 pounds since high school two years ago even if it’s all muscle which I doubt give it his injuries that’s a lot of weight to put on that quickly and still expect to have your explosiveness. When he was considered one of the top recruits in the country in high school he was 185 now it’s 220. Second, I think Jaylen Wilson shown plenty and doesn’t need to be playing anymore.

Why not just get Wilson the development & make the SL playoffs..he's the 51st pick he's not some blue chip can't miss..dude went ice cold at one point last yr..he had a Dariq Whitehead stretch at one point right after we signed him to the gtd deal

So many times we are looking to find that “diamond in the rough” from summer league, free agent flyer or 2nd round that ends up being a STAR. But, if we can find and develop SOLID foundational rotation players through this process that are young, then that’s a huge win for us as well… ie Jalen Wilson, KJ etc.

I don’t think Flagg will be the best pick for us though it’s too early to make a definitive statement. When I watched the McDonalds game featuring Flagg (who looked like a Kirelenko type defender but underwhelming offensively), Dylan Harper (who looked like an athletic Jaken Brunson), VH Edgecombe (who looked like an agressice abd athletic Dwayne Wade do everything 2 guard) and Ace Bailey (who also underwhelmed), both Harper, and Edgecombe looked like more impactful players to me. Last year at this time, Ron Holland was considered the top player. Then Buzelis, Sarr, and Rissacher took turns flip flopping for the top spot. I’ll be watching Duke, and Rutgers, and Baylor closely to monitor the top guys. But let’s remember, Duke has a history of not only getting the top guys like Kyrie, Zion, etc, but also of having “can’t miss”guys like Jabari Parker, Okafor, Brandon Ingram, Harry Giles, Marvin Bagley, and others who did not pan out as megastars. So let’s pump the brakes a little and watch the guys play college ball first.

Flagg is a lock. If you haven't already, go watch the select team play against the olympic team. Flagg fit right in and his confidence didn't waiver. Confidence is thr hardest part foe young players.

If Flagg is lock in as the #1 pick and Nets does not get the 1st pick, I think it will be a blessing as long as we gt in the top 5 pick. Still not high on Flagg

Have an interesting trade proposal for Doug and Adam or at least discussion. Pelicans send Brandon Ingram to the nets for Cam Johnson, Sharpe and DFs Couple things to note in this deal: First, it’s been reported that pelicans are reluctant to extend Brandon Ingram, who is on an expiring contract and would like to deal him. Second pretty much the same age as Cam Johnson he’s gonna be 27 years old and has some injury concerns, but is very talented. Second teir player. Third you could lose him for nothing in free agency damn and would bringing in a player like him in contract year be too much of a needle mover to risk railroading a tank season? I think a player like Ingram would make the Nets more fun to watch, but I don’t believe that he would particularly hurt their lottery chances. I think it would also help any faster turnaround for rebuild.
@LockedOnNets
@LockedOnNets 3 ай бұрын
I’m not sure of the end game. Ingram doesn’t fit the timeline, isn’t a number one, and needs a new deal. I brought his name up when considering ways to improve the Mikal centric Nets. Could you consolidate players and get Ingram back as a hold and flip at the deadline? Maybe At that point make it a three team deal and get picks up front I would say. -@adamarmbrecht
@jaymanjay3.0
@jaymanjay3.0 3 ай бұрын
@@LockedOnNets well that’s what I was kind of thinking. You trading for a bigger value asset in hopes of flipping Ingram at the deadline or even doing a sign and trade at the end of the season. You are shading the longer term deals of DFS and Cam Johnson which ultimately opens up more cap in 2025 than you have now. Does he fit the timeline? He will be just turning 27 so he is younger than Cam Johnson. If they are looking for a quicker rebuild having Ingram gets you one step closer. Not a super star but definitely from a talent standpoint point an upgrade even over bridges if he was still here.
@LockedOnNets
@LockedOnNets 3 ай бұрын
@@jaymanjay3.0 yeah I think I would do things that don’t involve Ingram ending up on the roster. Contract consolidation solid goal. Remember in DFS case it’s a player option next year, that really would hurt to have if he picked it up.

@@LockedOnNets but let’s access the free agent market in 2025 right or even 2026. I’m not see the big time free agents that will be available in that time frame. 2025 looks pretty rough. You are looking at giving g big money to second tier guys like Ingram. And even if a guy like Giannis becomes available is he really the guy with a bunch of mileage you want to trade for? There are these 25 year old superstars coming available.

Jalen is hoopin. But question? Should Brooklyn try to get young talent that isn’t being utilized in other places? I.E Jordan Walsh sitting on the bench in boston.. 6’6/6’7, can score, athletic and has a frame that can put on more muscle

I dont know why were so sure were going to be so bad..every fan including you guys just now are acting like were a lock for top 3 pick..ppl already making lineups with Flagg lol..But all we did was lose Midkal who sucked whole 2nd half of year..14 ppg on 37% fg..I actually think the growth of Cam Thomas Noah Clowney is our best PF better then DFS..Jalen Wilson growth..Also Jordi Fernandez is exponentially better then Vaughn..so why would we go from pick 10 to 1..Cause we lost Midkal? Well be picking 7th or 8th probably if they dont trade Schroeder & DFS & literally tell Jordi to lose..I cant see them Winning less then 28 games

Nets were 23rd in offensive rating and 20th in defensive rating. Mikal was their 1st or 2nd best player almost no matter which way you slice it. He underperformed but it's not like they've improved at all. Plus, they are going to take a path that encourages losing, especially late in the season.

I appreciate the daily content, still It's very evident that this pod is just a check to these guys⏰. Sports fans understand when their team is not good. We dont need constant reality checks to bring us back down to earth like "Whitehead will need a WHOLE year in G league"... Ok?? So what if he does? Its not the end of the world! Especially in a season we all know we're punting lol Idk... Between these two its either doom n gloom or every other take is hedged with a "kinda, maybe, sorta"...nervous energy. Lol are these two actual Nets fans or maybe they are really some disgruntled Bergen Co guys still sore over the orgs move from Jersey??
