There is no reference in Hadith, it first showed up in Shehab-Aldin Al-Buni's book Shams Al-Maarif Alkubra, in which he said the poem is attributed by some to Imam Ali and others to Ghazali. So it's probably North African Sufi folklore, nothing more. Anyway, the poem is beautiful in structure and meaning, even though I personally doubt it's written by the Imam.
