It's a great game! The more you play it, the random factor becomes less. If you have a bad roll, it's bad for everyone. The dice rolls are the same for all the players. If you get the expansion the game is even better.

The crew expansion is indeed a worthy addition. 👍🏻

Me and my girlfriend have been having great fun playing with a variation we thought up, where in a 2 player game you change the rules of the ghost ship and add "Battleship" rules instead... Each take a photo of the board and mark 4 trap spaces of the map (Not treasure spaces) with the edit photo feature on your phone and use the draw tool to mark them on the picture. Now when your opponent lands on one of your trap spaces, bring in the ghost ship and attack them as usual. Only move the ship when a trap is triggered. It gives lots more combat opportunities and removes all of the tedious ghost ship movement while adding so much more fun with the traps and bluffing people into them. We also remove all of the overpowered treasure cards and most curse cards too, just keep the extra "Hold" and all of the highest scoring "Victory Point" treasures thereafter. If playing with the expansion (which I do not own yet) I will probably just put all the highest victory point treasures in to the 2 player games and that way it makes it way more worthwhile to stop rather than just rushing to the finish. Honestly, try this out. You will not be disappointed. I could really do with printing out some board cards and then if laminated you could use a marker or maybe even print it on metal and use magnetic X's to mark the spots... Enjoy ;-)

Have you included this variant to the listing at BGG?

@@BoardGameBollocks Yeah, it's only a copy and paste of this though really. There isn't too many other things you need to worry about... We don't give the ghost ship the power up canons thingy or any extra canons for the whole game, but we still jettison all of his winnings. Really, you don't need to use him at all, as the rules work completely like traps and he is only moved around for effect. He can also be used as a marker for checking whether people were cheating by comparing with their picture at the end of the game. As every single trap is possibly the last trap activated, this works pretty good as a way of deterring that behaviour, of course if you are playing with someone who you don't trust at all, you could just put out a spare ship of any color as a marker for each one activated. I'll add this text to the BGG page now too. Keep up the good work dude, your vid was one of the first to introduce me to this awesome game 👍

you should look into "Run, Cowboy, Run!" It's a cheap game, great art aesthetic. You can teach people how to play in 3-ish minutes, and games usually only last 10 minutes (usually, when I play with new players, they want another go at it). Game itself = it's a race game with modified playing cards. There's some light strategy to it as well.

I’ve heard of it but it’s almost impossible to get over here. Shame.
