She is right, it was not about the gifts , there was barely any such thing for most people. ( who could afford that? ) but it was the fun , it was the camaraderie, the bonding , the love , the merriment. She is making me so happy. because that is the Jamaica I know

Yes, duties were gender biased. My job was to do the yard, paint the tree trunks, and shine up the car port. I also enjoyed going to the shop and using the change to try for the big balloon. We also went for “walk outs” to see the different Christmas trees in the neighborhood. She is spot on. Great memories.🇯🇲🇺🇸

Lovely memories! Christmas Eve evening was spent at Southdale Plaza, ending with Oopsi Doo ice cream, not sure of the spelling 😊 Christmas Day was either at my grandmother’s, aunt’s or sometimes my parents hosted the family gathering. Lovely tea set by the way. Yes duck bread was something I looked forward to.

I really enjoyed this episode. I grew up in Guyana in the 70's and 80's and l can relate to everything that she spoke about. What is interesting is that my siblings and friends whom l grew up with to this day the joy and memories of Christmas we have created with our own families in England, Canada and the USA.
