Hello everyone so we already looked at some of the phrases that Jamaicans use on a daily basis which are phrases that only a Jamaican would understand. And in this video we will be taking a look part 2 where we introduce you to some more of these phrases how Jamaicans use them to express different thoughts and behaviors.

Waagwan my family Gullah geechee and they speak patio just with ah likkle country twang. I’m here to learn more about Jamaican style patios

Gullah and Jamaican Creole are very similar in terms of the words said. The pronunciations are different, but a lotta similarities in words and grammatical structure.

It means I’m here to fulfill an obligation and not to be caught up in the circumstances surrounding the obligation. For example, I’m here to do my job well and for my personal growth and development, and not to be distracted by or be all-consumed with office politics and gossips. This expression reminds me of an ex boss in a positive way. He used this saying to compliment me. I’ll never forget.😊

Many of these sayings are known in many other Caribbean islands too who will understand, not just Jamaicans. If we have to get really technical, Patwah, correct spelt Patois, actually means broken French. Check the way Antiguans and Montserratians speak in their local dialects and you will hear many of the same phrases and idioms that are popular in the Jamaican dialect.

The correct spelling is “patios” , however some people cannot spell it so how it is pronounced is how they write/ spell it.

Both, its pronounced Patwah, but spell Patois. Im sure in the future, the spelling will be Patwah or Potwah when its officialized
