Depression and anxiety is a global epidemic with most suffering in silence. SBTV founder Jamal Edwards is on a mission to break the stigma around mental illness. In this documentary Jamal meets musicians such as Dave, Sasha Keable & more plus health professionals to talk about the influence of social media, the pressure of being in the public eye and why musicians are three times more likely to suffer from depression than the general public. That fact comes from a study conducted by www.helpmusicians.org.uk/asse...

Personally believe anyone working in the creative sector, content creators, photographers, videographers, directors, designers, artists, producers, managers, entrepreneurs etc. have a much higher chance of suffering from mental illness. Many due to the pressure of what they’re doing, their the need to prove to their family they have a “real job”, some because they’re ambitious and have set goals that they want to achieve. Anyway, well done to Jamal for covering the topic, and the artists for speaking up. I really hope there are plans to make this into a series that covers how to spot when a friends or families are going through it and how to help them manage it.

Mental illness particularly anxiety is common among young black males but it goes undetected for the most part and manifest itself in all sort of madness we see some of them get up to
@someonelong7528
@someonelong7528 6 жыл бұрын
You sound so small minded and it's sad you don't even realise. "Common amongst young black males" whys that then exactly? Because the colour of their skin is black? That makes no sense at all. Skin colour has no dictation over the mind. It can influence you into thinking a certain way if you have been conditioned that way. But that's still your mind doing the thinking. Not your skin colour. Small minds think alike

Someone Long The person could be saying the truth, although imo it would probably be more to do with culture than race. Different cultures have different attitudes to mental illnesses.

He doesn't sound small minded. He's right. We don't talk about it in our community and it goes undetected. There is nothing negative about using the word black. It is common amongst young black males.

With anyone struggling with severe depression or anxiety, with professional help and time it does get better. The worst thing u can do is not talk about it because that's when u get sucked into this proper dark hole where u think there's no way out. #mentalhealthawareness 💛

For people who search fame they need to realise that the industry is a beast! It will take you eat you and spit you out! Some are spat out half dead and manage to survive. others will fall victim and die whilst being chewed up by the beast. Look historically how many great music icons have died due to drug abuse due to pressure because of the industry. The industry is like grabbing a raging bull from the horns and hoping you survive the ride! Long story short there is more to life than fame! Tackling the issue of why do people want fame in the first place? Perhaps a mental rejection of some sort and feel that searching for fame will cure a mental problem. The industry is not a cure!
