ARAFAT DAĞINDAN is a mystical ancient folk song from the city of Akmescit (Simferopol). This song is mysterious. It tells a story about a person who conquers Arafat. And after returning from a pilgrimage, receives the honorary title of Haji.
Arafat is this waterless desert valley, which is located near the Holy Mecca. According to the Islamic sacred tradition, the first people Adam and Eve, after being expelled from Paradise, searched for each other for a long time, and met in this valley from afar, recognizing each other. The word "arafat" comes from the Arabic root "arafa" which means “to recognize”.
When we started recording this song, suddenly, the equipment shut down for the first time in three days of work. The musicians anxiously said that it was impossible to play it, they asked: "Jamala, what is it about? This song just lifts off the ground."
When we got to the stage production, director Viktoriya Fedorovych said that when she was writing the script for this song, the computer turned off, the lights were suddenly off and nothing worked. Then she raised her head and said: "I am not of this faith, but help me, let me do the trick!" And she offered to make the stage as if we were looking through the patterns of different windows on the stage, but we cannot 100% become a part of it.
Akmescit is one of the cultural centers located in the heart of the peninsula. The name is translated from Crimean Tatar as "white mosque" - in honor of the mosque made of white stone, which is now called Kebir Jami. This city has notable religious buildings, architectural and cultural attractions, and picturesque surroundings.
