Interesting ranking. I would like to express my thought on my two general disagreements: 1) WHY THUNDERBALL IS A GREAT (IF NOT A MASTERPIECE) BOND MOVIE: In Dr No, Connery was still experimenting with the role and he is great but yet a bit stiff. In From Russia with Love he explores more the "dark" side of the character. In Goldfinger he adds more charm and "witticism" and completes the formula. But in Thunderball he IS James Bond and the formula is perfected. Connery's performance on this is truly unique. He shows the greatest confidence ever. His style, his movements, the way he speaks, his one-liners, his demeanor and even the way he looks, everything that was built in the previous 3 films, reach perfection. He is "dark" and gritty and at the same time charming and stylish. He looks tough and ruthless which at the same time combines with incredible humor and unsurpassed style. And he obviously enjoys playing the character more than ever, either before or after. It is also the ultimate "escapism" movie. Beautiful exotic places, wonderful scenery and landscapes, incomparable lifestyle, amazing women (Fiona Volpe is an amazing femme fatale and Domino one of the hottest Bondgirls). it is even considered alongside with Goldfinger a "fashion icon" movie! The plot is simple but realistically believable. And for the first time it focuses on Bond himself and not the vilain. The action scenes are great. The gadjets are believable (the jet-pack was real in the beginning). The underwater shooting and especially the underwater battle was a revolutionary achievement for the time and a unique sample of cinematography for 1965! So initially in Goldfinger but mainly in Thunderball, Connery reaches the fine line of perfection, as he becomes at the same time tough and refined, stylish and ruthless, a real killer with a sense of humor, who lives on the edge and therefore enjoys every minute of his life as if it were his last. Goldfinger at 85% and Thunderball at 100%, are the timeless epitome of the James Bond movies, before Connery got tired of the role in You Only Live Twice and before the production turned to a more comic version (parody-spoof) of Bond, with Diamonds Are Forever and the Roger Moore era. Also Thunderball is also historically extremely significant for the franchise that we love: It broke the smashing box office records. It is to this date the highest grossing Bond movie of all time (inflation counted). If Goldifinger created the "Bondmania", then Thunderball made it into a high fever. The flms remarkable achievements transformed James Bond from a popular fictional hero, into a phenomenon in cinema history. For all that, it deserves to be higher on any ranking list... 2) WHY SEAN CONNERY WAS THE GREATEST BOND OF ALL TIME: Sean Connery was not just the first and most iconic Bond. In the first 4 Bond films (Dr. No - FRWL - Goldfinger - Thunderball) he was the best Bond of all time. That's why these films are called "fabulous 4" for the franchise. He was the only one who could be dark and wild and at the same time refined and charming. He looked just as dangerous, tough and ruthless as Craig or Dalton, without having to look depressed and with a lot more style and charisma. He could have had humor and outbursts, without this making him stingy or turning the film into a comedy, as was often the case with Moore. He looked cooler and with much more natural talent than Lazenby or Brosnan. He filled the screen with charisma and masculinity that no one else could reach. His appearance, his style, his movements, the way he even said each phrase or one-liner make him unattainable. Sean Connery made James Bond: "the man that every other man would want to be and every woman would just want ...". While Moore often turned the character into a "caricature" of Connery Bond, Dalton a "dry" and humorless character, Brosnan a "videogame" hero, and Craig a depressing and often "bipolar" character as an alternative. Jason Bourne. In conclusion, Sean Connery has been the ultimate Bond personification because he is the only one you would want to be at all times. All his successors had some of Bond's assets. He had it all. That's why Sean Connery IS James Bond, while his successors simply portrayed James Bond. Even the other actors admitted that: George Lalenby: «…the all time greatest Bond - Sean Connery. Sean, for me, was always the man». (Instagram, 25-8-2020). Roger Moore: «As far as I’ m concerned Sean Connery was Bond. And the best Bond! He created it». (BBC Radio 5 Live on Monday 12th September 2011). Timothy Dalton: «…I was asked, at least approached 3 or 4 years in the past and ori-ginally I didn’t want to take over from Sean Connery. He was far too good. He was wonderful… When you have seen Bond from the beginning, you don’t take over from Sean Connery» (Good Morning America, 1987). Pierce Brosnan: «Sir Sean Connery, you were my greatest James Bond as a boy, and as a man who became James Bond himself… You led the way for us all who followed in your iconic footsteps». (Instagram 31-10-2020). Daniel Craig: «For me Sean Connery was the finest. He will always going to be someone I look toward from when I started. You know Dr. No and From Russia With Love are my favourite films». (kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKOYfmd5iN5pqMU) More recently he declared that Goldfinger is his favourite movie.

That’s a fantastic breakdown man!! I love Sean Connery and I completely agree with all of the quotes and explanation and his growth and rise into the character of Bond was phenomenal. I hold the utmost respect and love for him but I still do love Daniel Craig just that smidge more :) But I’m so glad you love Connery, he was a brilliant actor!

@@kiersreviews Great. I respect that. Craig for me comes second to Connery. He is a great actor, and indeed a good Bond. He has that grittiness, but he lacks Connery's coolness, style and charisma. Craig isn't "the man that every other man wants to be and every woman just wants". Only Connery achieved that. But this is a personal opinion. You should also give another chance to Thunderball. Rewatch it and you will see that everything i say is right about it. It is regarded as "Connery's best performance and even the best Bond portrayal of the entire franchise". It's brilliant. A step up from Goldfinger. My best regards

Solid top 10. Good breakdown and summary of each movie. Having watched every Bond at the flics, coming from a different generation, i have a few differences! I wouldnt have Spectre in at the top or Dr. No. OHMSS would be in the top 5(my first Bond) Octopussy would be higher, so would FYEO and the dullest Bond movie ever QOS would be lower. Great review, respect on your top 10

Hey Andrew, thank you so much for lending your fellow Bond opinions with me! I think Spectre holds a really sentimental value as it was the final Bond film I ever got to see with my uncle who adored 007 and got me into the films. Dr No, after Skyfall, was the second film he ever showed me and because it was one of his favourites, it's one he watched the most with me so those two movies probably aren't as great as where I've placed them but the sentimental value I have for them both is the reason why. OHMSS used to be a really strong 9/10 for me and I really surprised myself on this rewatch that I didn't love it as much so maybe it's just because I'm at a different stage in life or perhaps I wasn't paying as much attention but I certainly have loved that one for a long time. I just don't think I'm a massive fan of Roger Moore's and I never have been so I think it's a bit of personal opinion on Octopussy and For Your Eyes Only. I'm sure as I see Quantum Of Solace that it will gradually get way lower because for me, it gets even worse with every viewing given that its only real merit is the action! Thanks for taking the time to watch my video, I really appreciate it more than you know!

I appreciate all Bond fans and their ratings and viewpoints, keep up the good work. Here are mine if you are interested. A Films - Great films that I will watch anytime 1. The Spy who loved me- Moore at his finest, a great spy film with perfect pacing, just the right amount of comedy and Jaws. 2. From Russia With Love - Connery’s best film, probably the closest to an actual Fleming novel, beautifully paced, a true spy thriller film. 3. Skyfall - Sam Mendes purposefully tried to pull the franchise back from the disaster of QoS by brining in a more Connery/Fleming feel but with modern twists. It was nice to see Craig pull off a more faithful Fleming Bond. 4. No Time to Die - Great villain with an actual lair, modern plot, real stunt work without tons of CGI that have plagued several of Craig’s film. Again a Craig film that oozes Bond. 5. License to Kill - Dark, edgy, vindictive, and a great Bond girl. This is the revenge film that the franchise needed 6. Goldeneye - Iconic Bond with some of the greatest scenes, damn jump, tank chase, etc. Brosnan was awesome in it. 7. A View to a Kill - Bond is old, who cares, and the film itself is a gem and has some real nail-biting moments (elevator scene, finale). If you forgive Moore’s age this becomes a quintessential Bond film that is loads of fun to watch and harkens back to the FRWL era. 8. Live and Let Die - Proved Moore could be Bond with a great change of pace, it was funny, fast moving, had a great song, Solitaire was a great Bond girl and the awesome stunts (alligator run, boat chase) B Films - Very good films that I have no problem re-watching. 9. Thunderball - Connery’s best acted film, the plot was awesome, stunning locales and the underwater fight scenes were incredible. It was also a course correction to the campier GF. 10. The world is Not Enough - A corrective to TND that brought back a more Connery-esque style film with spy craft, double crosses, etc. Probably Brosnan's thinking man's film. 11. Dr. No - If released today it would be considered a art house flick. Shows how real spy/espionage was done. 12. Die Another Day - The first half of this movie is the best Bond movie ever made, it then has the purposeful tonal shift into sci-fi territory that doesn’t work for everyone but I really like they were comparing and contrasting the pre/post 9/11 world. They made a bet that technology was going to rule the day, something that was understandable 2-3 weeks after 9/11, that guess turned out wrong but this is still a kick ass movie with Bond turned up to a 11. 13. Octopussy - Campy but still enjoyable, the actual plot is one of the best of Bonds. 14. For Your Eyes Only - I enjoy trying to figure out who is the real villain but it’s slower pacing brings this down into the B grade films but still a very solid entry. 15. Diamonds are Forever - Nails 1970 Las Vegas where the mob still controlled huge parts of it and how over the top Vegas actually was. The film also has the best dialogue of any Bond film making it fun to watch and Connery is back on his game, well rested and a twinkle in his eye again. The iconic elevator fight scene is one of the best in the series and Bond riding up on the outside of the elevator is another classic. 16. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service - Great story although it drags in the middle, awesome cinematography but unfortunately Lazenby’s acting drags it down to this position. 17. The Living Daylights - This has some great scenes but for some reason they don’t come together very well which is a shame. In this instance the parts were greater than the whole. 18. Goldfinger - The rape scene is cringe worthy, it’s a poorly paced film and Bond actually doesn’t do very much in it. Yes there are some iconic lines and the villain and henchman are top notch but what I mentioned above and the all of the edits from actors working in the US to those on the English Soundstage drops it down to this position. C Films - Average films that I don't go out of my way to re-watch 19. Casino Royale - OMG how I wanted to love this film, it has some great scenes and then some very poor scenes that drops it into the C category. Bond invading an embassy would have gotten him fired PERIOD. Who unveils a new airliner at 2 AM? And why claim it’s Miami when it’s clearly a European airport with European airliners and cars in the scene? Vesper was way too young (23) to hold such a high position. The Arron Sorkin like dialogue between Bond and Vesper was a letdown. The sinking building in Venice was groan worthy fake, I could go on and on but people seem to ignore all of the faults in this film so they can agree with everyone else that this is one of the best, I just don't see it. 20. Tomorrow Never Dies - A completely generic 1990 action film. It was well shot, acting was good but you could have Jean Claude Van Damme play Agent Brandon of the CIA and nothing would have changed. Great action film, poor and forgettable Bond film. On the plus side, I loved Dr. Kaufman scene and Q and Bond at the rental car counter. Negatives would be the overly long and fake looking action scenes with Bond in them, Elliot Carver was a terrible corniest villain that makes the film look like a parody, and Bond entering the stealth board with a machine gun in each hand screams 1990 action flick like nothing else. 21. You only live twice - I remember watching this as a kid on TV and thinking that this is the corniest Bond film ever and Connery seemed bored and irritated in it. They turned Bond Japanese, made a slow boring commercial about come visit Japan, the head of the Japanese secret service has a slide to get into his office, little Nellie was silly and a volcano lair, holy crap you have an Austin Powers movie. 22. The Man with the Golden Gun - The world’s best assassin uses a midget to lure other assassins to his circus fun house to kill them. Oh and something about a laser. Christopher Lee, Moore and Herb V. were great in it but the script/plot was not the best. D Films - very rarely watch on their own. 23. Moonraker - A schizophrenic film, it has some of the darkest scenes of any Moore film (a lady is hunted down and killed by dogs) with some of the corniest/cheesiest parts. It’s part Noir Thriller mixed with a sophomoric comedy making it the Norbit of Bond Films. 24. Spectre - Slow, loaded with fake CGI scenes and of course it literally copied a parody film. Bond is now making a parody of a parody, this is a joke. F Films - Only watch when I am doing a whole series re-watch and even then it takes 2-3 days to get through. 25. Quantum of Solace - From the seizure inducing Frenetic editing to cover up the hundreds of goofs, to a boring villain with the lowest stake plot, to all of the fake CGI stunts and a hotel fight scene that was copied from Bourne (they had 2 unit directors from Bourne directing the action sequences.) This film is not a Bond film at all, it fails in quality, action, plot, villain and it copies almost everything from other movies who have done it better and before. Bond should be leading the pack not following from behind.
