Yep, John Dee was the original 007. He was Queen Elizabeth 1sts astrologer and the mentor to Francis Bacon, who wrote The New Atlantis, which was a blueprint for the future dystopia. Anyway, Dee was sent to Europe by the Queen on an espionage mission with occultist Edward Kelley. They were trying to decipher the Enochian language. When Dee wrote back to London, he signed off with 'John Dee, 007'. As you correctly say, it symbolises the two balls and cane of Tubal Cain (Vulcan - alchemical stuff) in Freemasonry.

This is the second film John Travolta & Brian De Palma have worked on together (other being Carrie). There’s an interview from 2010 conducted by Noah Baumbach (White Noise director) where the director says Vertigo & Hitchcock played an inspiration for the film. It also came out a year before the 19 year moon cycle (1982).

I can't watch a movie anymore without seeing all these symbols. Thank you for making me aware of them.
