John Barry gave this certain atmosphare to Bond movies. Especially "You only live twice", "On her majestys secret service", and (my all time high score) "Moonraker". The way he made scenes work with his music is unbeatable.

The extended version of OHMSS is my favourite Bond soundtrack - jointly with Live and Let Die.
@douggriggs149910 жыл бұрын
Alan!!! I have found someone else who has the same opinion as me. I love this OHMSS theme the very best ..... and McCartney and Wings' theme of "Live and Let Die" the best among the themes with singing (which is just about all the rest). What gets your vote as the very worst Bond theme? I have a strong opinion about this one.
@VanlifewithAlan10 жыл бұрын
Doug Griggs I think the worst would have to be For Your Eyes Only as it is so slow although there are a couple of good tracks on the soundtrack such as the chase sequences and submarine!
@douggriggs149910 жыл бұрын
I thought that one ... "For Your Eyes Only" .... was mediocre, but not quite terrible. The runaway "winner" for me was the theme to "Quantum of Solace," by Alicia Keys and Jack White. Horrid song for the very worst of the Bond films IMHO.

I am a very big Daniel Craig fan. Thought he was wonderful in Layer Cake and of course in Casino. So that is why I was really bummed out about Quantum. But I liked Skyfall a lot. Trouble is, Daniel is aging quickly. Lots more wrinkles in his face now compared to when he did LC and Casino.

Doug Griggs and Alan Heath. Since I have not seen any of the Bond films since Dalton's last Bond film, I can't evaluate the music scores from the Brosnan and Craig Bond films, but without question the worst Bond main title songs from the Connery through Dalton films are ''AVTAK'', ''TLD'' AND ''TMWTGG''. Generally speaking, ''Dr. No'' has no main title theme song even though the film opens with (after the James Bond Theme) the song ''Three Blind Mice''.

My favorite Bond film, and arguably the best overall music of any Bond film. This movie has it all....I bet Connery was chewing titanium when he realized he had skipped out on the best Bond movie of all.

OHMSS was my first ever Bond movie, my brother and I sat in the theater on a Saturday for probably 3 showings. It still remains one of my favorite Bond movies (along with You Only Live Twice and Thunderball). I even bought the Soundtrack because I loved the music so much. Classic John Barry.

The Ski Chase music from this movie has no equal in the Franchise.
@7Lukibi99Tore79 жыл бұрын
David Powell Actually the ski chase music called ''Runaway'' from ''FYEO'' which is more famously known as the theme song to the TV show ''Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous'' is equally as great as the ski chase music from ''OHMSS''. It is just different stylistically.
@niels25chr19 жыл бұрын
+7Lukibi99Tore7 no it's not. It's way too cheesy. But it's good I'll give you that but noway Runaway can match this. Than Snowjob from AVTAK is far better.

Starting at 0:35 or 0:36, the next few seconds have some of the most AWESOME music I have ever heard in my life. If I am not mistaken, this music played during the morning scene after Bond and Tracy (Diana Rigg) had spent the night in a barn. Blofeld and his henchman break into the barn, only to find that James and Tracy have abandoned the car and skied their way out. The idyllic opening music with the lovers on the pristine slopes is suddenly, VERY RUDELY interrupted as Blofeld and co. pursue!

OHMSS gets a bad rap, yet it finished within the top 10 of the highest grossing movies in 1969. It's got all the Bond elements: A great bad guy, lovely Bond women, a big battle at the end...yet it also has (a) a music video in the middle of it ("We Have All the Time in the World") (b) a sad ending, (c) no real gadgets, and (d) a new man as Bond. Lois Maxwell ("Moneypenny") said that if OHMSS had not been a Bond film then the critics would have taken it more seriously back then.

That moment is interesting because Lazenby originally cried during the first take of the film. The director (Peter Hunt) told Lazenby that Bond does not cry, and they re-shot it. But in "Skyfall" Daniel Craig's Bond does cry. I wonder what Peter Hunt (God rest his soul) would think of that?

HUH??? Who gave OHMSS a bad rap?? Obviously someone with rocks in his head, fur for brains. Stupendous chase scenes .... on skis no less!!! .... and incredibly exciting music. Plus some romance for the ladies. I had read the book before the movie came out, and knew that a tragic ending was coming up. But four friends of mine in high school saw it on a double date and all of them were incredibly saddened by the ending. The two girls cried.

Hey David, I am in complete agreement with you on all you said. The music theme was the best and the casting was great! I don't care what anyone thinks, Lazenby was way better than Roger Moore any time. Bond did not have a lot of lines and relied on action. Lazenby was a stud and took my breath away-totally believable. Many Bond critics will say this was the best overall Bond film. There were a few silly parts with all the women, but that was kind of an era thing.

This is my favourite Bond film of all time! Yes, ok, Lazanby had a few flaws but he's way better than Roger Moore... Diana Rigg is amazing, sexy, intelligent, confident and sensitive - the main theme music is without doubt the best in the entire series - the story-line kicks ass compared to the over-rated Skyfall, the skiing/chase is thrilling, Telly Savalas as Blofeld was an excellent choice - he was evil, pompous and (at times) quite funny. Let me know what you think!

George Lazenby did a decent job, but did not have the respect for the role. Years later, Pierce Brosnan remarked on how Mr. Lazenby did not have respect for his work. Too bad, because he did decent work. God knows Diana Rigg was fantastic, as were many of the other performers! And I love the soundtrack!

What are you on about? Peter Hunt made the perfect movie to follow up Sean Connery. Lazenby didn't want to do a second one and the producers did an anal-rape with "Diamonds are forever" starring: Sean Connery. Waste of his talents. The biggest mistake Broccoli ever made. OHMSS: probably the best Bond ever made.
@CylonDorado12 жыл бұрын
Ok, it had an ok story, and the music was solid. But the pacing was aweful, it just about put me to sleep. And his one liners weren't delivered very well. At least when Roger Moore said a bad pun, he said it in a really dry, sarcastic way. Like he knew it was bad, but he's not there to tell jokes, he's there to kick ass. Daniel Craig does something similar. And everything sounds good when Sean Connery says it.

@amandah.26889 жыл бұрын
Niels Christiansen Lazenby actually demonstrated to Cubby Broccoli and Harry Salltzman in auditions that he could "manage" the fight choreography... Roger Moore was essentially not a fighting man at all but a "country club" version of 007. Even Connery had a reputation for being a natural fighter. Connery single handedly dispatched 4 thugs at a London nightclub in the early 1950's and pistol whipped an American Mafia lieutenant on a film set in California in during the early 60's....
