James Brown is the only person I know that can accurately verbalize the feeling you get when the funk hits, when the soul takes over, when you can’t help but move and ya gotta shout it’s so good 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 and always on key when you want to shout out too like “dang that beat is funky (GOOD GOD) yeeesss James!”

By this point the formula was becoming stale. No semblance of melody. Just vamp and chant. Miles Davis exploited it to the max a few years later. The last two great songs that JB recorded (1971) were “Talking Loud and Saying Nothing” and “There It Is.” That’s not to say he wasn’t a great performer as he got into middle age and beyond. But by then it had become more of a nostalgia trip for us old folks.

As big of a fan as I am of James Brown, I think he's the greatest entertainer of all time, but I never understood when he appeared on the Mike Douglas show as the cohost for the entire week or on other shows in 1969 and 70, he didn't dance much at all. None of his signature sliding or mashed potatoes. I wonder what his rationale was for that?
@PaulDA20003 жыл бұрын
@Ike Dyson Yeah but that would’ve given him free advertising to millions and millions of people and he put a probably gotten a lot of them to come to his shows.

I'm 1000% sure that our (Black People) Zulu, kith and kin ancestors, would have been very pleased if indeed this is/was reminiscent of a Zulu war chant. You can't plagiarize, something that you and your people came from. It's part of your nature. Jack Ass!!!.
