i believe that this version of give it up, was james' favorite tune to perform. it was a feel good song and it gets the crowd into the show. this tune did not have much in a lyrical way, but the groove , oh brother, the GROOVE, with everybody cooking at 300 degrees and bootsy layin' that funky bassline, how could you possibly sit still behind that? look through the crowd, there are so many heads bobbin', and hands clapping, some could not help themselves and got up to dance. that's my man.

Thank you sooooooo much KZbin for allowing everyone the chance to see how good Soul music used to be, and how very far it's fallen. Heck, ALL music for that matter!

best start to a song EVER, a quick spin with a removal of the jacket, followed by a smooth slide and kick to the mic.

This might be the grooviest tune ever ! When I hear it, I can't stay still, my all body and my mind are grooving. The rhythm section is so tight, the groove, the energy everything is in the pocket. The version in the double-live LP is even sicker ! James Brown and the JB's is action, you can't beat this !

there should be a monument to James Brown in NYC or Washington - Americans should respect and celebrate these incredible innovators. James Brown almost single-handedly invented a new type of music. There was funk yeah for sure but his insistence on minimalism and precision was something new entirely and influenced just about every aspect of music afterwards.

this was the baddest band ever... and the parliament/funkadelic crew follows! I'm from italy but sadly I was born 12 yrs later, so I missed all of my favorite bands... bologna is 300km from where i live but i would have been to this show even if I had to walk there! This music is still so powerful and relevant today so I just can't imagine how it would be for a 1971 italian kid to watch something like this. I would have been totally blown away

The Bologna crowd here are almost dead, but im sure quite few audience members are absorbing the funk. The crowd's collective mind must have been blown by the level of syncopation provided. Within 10 years Italians would be funking out all over the country to disco. If James Brown played this in Bologna today the crowd would be going crazy.
