one of the most brilliant performances of his incandescent career.

While in college in Atlanta, a few fraternity brothers and I went to Ponce de Leon ballpark for a night show with the the Godfather of Soul, plus Otis Redding. There we were.......a few white faces scattered in with thousands of brothers and sisters. We all got the full James Brown treatment........his initial entrance from right field via limousine, being helped off stage when exhausted, then a leap back up there for more, etc. I'll always recall that night. What a show, folks, what a show!

At one time, this LP was considered the live recording that every other one was judged by. Loved it since I heard it when I was a kid, back in the early 1960s!

+williamg2552 the HOF is a joke to begin with. James couldnt convince Syd Nathan at King to record a live LP so James financed it himself.
@williamg25528 жыл бұрын
+roughtake What's even MORE of a joke is that people are still crediting James Brown ALONE for songs that were recorded by ALL of the Flames...Bobby Bennett mentioned this when he accepted Hall of Fame induction on behalf of the group in 2012 . They even failed to credit them on THIS POSTED SONG...even though their name AND their voices are on the record...

@GolfTheMagicRabbit:Exactly on what basis do you make this statement? Sam & James both released their first secular records in 1956. The difference is that while Sam recorded in a Pop vein, James was pure, unfiltered R&B. Sam had an eye on the Supper Clubs & James on the Chitlin' Circuit. It wasn't until 1960 that Sam began steering his music into R&B, while James had always been there. It was this very LP which forced Pop music to come to James & it was done on HIS terms...HARD SOUL!

JAMES BROWN was NOT a "solo" artist during this period , despite what history revisionists and uninformed Dee Jays would have you believe. Do you hear the men singing in the background ? They are THE FAMOUS FLAMES (Bobby Byrd, Bobby Bennett, and Lloyd Stallworth) . James Brown was ALSO a member of The Famous Flames...and sang with them for well over a decade. People have been spreading a LIE for over 40 years, that The FAMOUS FLAMES was the name of his BAND. WRONG !! They were a SINGING GROUP.

This 1963 million-selling album, big as it was, was improperly MARKETED. It was marketed solely as a "JAMES BROWN" Album, when, in REALITY, it was an album by JAMES BROWN *and* THE FAMOUS FLAMES.
