@PaulDA20004 жыл бұрын
Snodgrass Gerald The sad fact is that it’s the white people that remain his fans for all these years. He could still go to Europe and sell out concerts. The black people in general are the ones that deserted him and went on to other funk artists. No loyalty. He’s been my favorite entertainer since 1968 when I was 12 years old, and I saw him over 100 times in concert between 1971 and 2005 and have everything he ever recorded. And I’m white. Never deserved him through his tough times or even after 1974 when black radio stop playing his music.

Yes, I admit I was a bit sensitive. Especially considering what Mr Brown meant to our people, more specifically, to my late grandfather who used to play "Say It Loud, I'm Black & I'm Proud," on the record player, over & over..... right before he went to mow the lawns of rich white people. Some of whom..when they couldn't afford to pay him..would accuse him of shoddy workmanship & use that as an excuse to stiff him. He felt that he had to humbly accept it (what was HIS word against the white man's?)...but he would go back home & play _I'm Black & I'm Proud"_ on repeat. To be fair, I can see how this performance might seem lackluster to someone like you. But to be fair to Mr Brown, he had to be what..in his early/mid 70s during this performance? To expect the multiple splits, high energy & fancy footwork from this legend, at this point in his life, seems a bit much to ask. At least in my opinion. LOL anyways, salute.
@PaulDA20004 жыл бұрын
I disagree with you completely. This is a fantastic performance. The man was 66 years old here, what the hell did you want to do, backflips? I saw him over 100 times in concert since 1971 when I was 15 and he’s been my favorite entertainer since I was 12 in 1968.
