My great-uncle John Blalock taught James to play. Ive never seen or heard anyone play a fiddle as smooth as James Bryan. I met him when I was a child and had the pleasure of seeing him play several times through the years. Listening to James takes me back to my childhood and the "musicals " at my great aunt Edna Crowe's home.

Ive never seen anyone who is any more down to earth than James. He has always been one of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. Ive seen a lot of musicians and I can honestly say he is one of the best i have ever seen. You have to have a strong desire to be what he is and to top it off being so smooth with that bow

Just transcribed this fiddle song to cello and it’s one of my favorite old time tunes to play. I love playing the A,B,C parts in different orders, quite fun.

It was a great time learning this tune from James at the Bluff Country Gathering in MN, several years ago! Can't beat that pleasurable sound especially with Carl's guitar!

Love the gentle way you both play this piece and Washington's March. I think of this tune each time I pass through Tryon, Prince Edward Island on the way home.

I've known James when he was traveling with Norman Blake. If you look at the earlier videos of him playing this tune you will see that he has the third part. Here he does it only maybe once. I think he forgot he has a third part. Or he chose not to play it this time. He is one of the best musicians in the old time world.

I like how they only occasionally play the third part (ala Bryan). It's as if James and Carl might be giving props to the original tune -- or the tune as James learned it from Mack (Mack, is that right?) Blaylock. Recorded version: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKvHmJiHqKmmobc

fantastic playing, doe,s james play this in C, i'm trying to learn this from watching it over and over, but im new to fiddle, are there any vid's out there that show a slower way of playing it? perhaps james could do a teaching class on it? all the best from the uk, and a big thanks for posting it, ged todd.

I've always heard this with three parts played in sequence, but he starts out playing just the first 2 parts then adds the 3 part while seeming to mix them in an unconventional sequence. I understand he wrote the 3rd part.

Brian Chisholm To me this is just the difference between a jam (played the same the whole time) and an arrangement for performance
