@marniekilbourne608
@marniekilbourne608 Жыл бұрын
@@carolray9156 You can NOT put children to death. They are nowhere near developed like adults. It is absolutely horrific but that is not the solution. A mental facility for life is a better place. The last child they executed was in the 1930's in the electric chair and they barely had any evidence. Race was clearly a factor in that and how quickly he was arrested and put to death. The death penalty is outdated especially given how many people are falsely convicted. It belongs in the past. They can't commit murder but we as society can for punishment? That makes us as bad as killers. It also costs more to put a person to death overall than to just give them life without parole. Thou Shalt Not Kill....no exceptions listed and just a general rule to go by for the non religious.
@marniekilbourne608

You would think but who knows what their young brains were thinking or what those boys had experienced in their lives. They certainly needed to do extensive psych evaluations and investigate their family life. They would still need to be locked up but knowing why for sure and what they understood is important. Kids do kill and we really need to figure out why this is happening and more often. Then maybe things can be done to prevent tragedies like this and many others.

I remember when this story hit the US. I was 14 and I was standing in our living room keeping an eye on the story. I remember hoping police would find little James, and when they said that his body was found I cried. I remember thinking whoever did this needed to be in prison for the rest of their lives. Then when it was brought out that it was two children that committed such a horrific crime I was in shock! I remember it was this case that revised store policies that if a child was reported missing in a store the store was put in lockdown.

Children's brains aren't fully developed. If a child does something this awful, there's definitely other many other awful things in their lives outside their control. Anyone who is a parent understands how weird and emotional 10 years olds are, too. Robert Thompson made use of every opportunity provided to him in custody, and effectively vanished after he served his sentence. He probably hasn't told a soul about his past, holds down a job, keeps to himself. Venables is the more tragic of the two. The reason he keeps getting in trouble is because he tries to unburden himself. He gets drunk and tells people his real identity. I guess one might say, the system has a 50% success rate in this case, if we want to talk about rehabilitation.

This case has stuck with me since it happened. The fact too that Jon Venables has been in trouble again despite his change of name and location says more about him in terms of his intent, than it does anything else. The cold blooded intent to take any child off the street and do ill intent shows these two had no compunction about killing a defenseless child. The strength of Denise to be able to live on despite the horrendous thing done to her baby is testament to who she is. A survivor. She reminds me a lot of Doris Tate, mother of Sharon Tate murdered by the Manson gang.
