James, Earl of Wessex: Prince Edward and Sophie’s son is the “Hidden Royal”

He’s not hidden. He has been in attendance at significant public events. But beyond that, he’s a kid and a schoolboy and at this stage of his life, he needs a normal and private life. His parents, despite their public prominence, want this for their children very much.

I agree, but, James is a Royal Duke in waiting and an Earl in his own right (now that Prince Edward and Sophie are the Duke and Duchess of Edenborough,) so I expect his prominence will elevate at some point of his life, and soon (even though the King wants a "slimmed" down monarchy.) James had already attended his first (if not more) official royal engagement, as mentioned in the video.

@@XRos28James is not a Royal Duke in waiting since KCIII decided that the Duke of Edinburgh title will not be hereditary. That said, perhaps cousin William will give James a Dukedom. I personally want him and his sister to use their HRH and Prince/Princess titles and become working royals. :)

Personally, I wish the old way would return, from what I know there are 23 non-royal Dukes/Duchesses remaining. I like the 18th and 19th way of titles in place. I understand why that slim down Royalty came to be (the cost in a difficult times), but I liked the full family to be in a status of "working Royals", and I do mean working, for the people, NOT just of the people. From what I understand, the U.K. Royals bring money in, it's not just a waste, but a national symbol and pride (or at least, should be, all the divorces and disloyalties, should be dealt with, not swept away, or ignored.) This family unit is the only unbroken one of the Queen's four children. I think Edward and Sophie have done a fine job in raising these two attractive, seemingly well-grounded young people. James is a good-looking young man, and he appears serious and intelligent. He will be a true contributor to British society whatever he chooses for his life's work.

Agree. Edward chose very well. Also Edward kicked his heels up young, got it all out of his system, then married. Edward dropped out of military service, he only did a year. It wasn't for him. Then he wanted to be an actor. He got it out of his system.

I think the idea of James becoming a working royal is a very good idea. He is a bridge in age between Prince George and his father Prince William, and by the time James is old enough, some of the now working royals may well have retired from public life. William and Kate can't be everywhere, and until their children become of age, there needs to be some members of the family who can step up and help out. James would be an ideal candidate if you ask me.

I’d love to see him become a full-time working royal. Younger members at the “front lines” are desperately needed, and James is very handsome, appears to have an appreciation of dignity and protocol, and has a _glorious_ smile 🙂(though it is seldom seen during these teenage years; he appears to be a bit camera-shy which is to his credit and will be overcome in due time.) I think he has the potential to be a great asset to the family.

And my goodness, what an economic boost would be accomplished by stopping the influx of illegal migrants! To those who _do_ see value in a vibrant monarchy, I'd suggest that if expenses need to be reduced, there are better ways to achieve that than whittling down the number of working members of the royal family to close to zero. I very much hope to be seeing Prince Edward's son and daughter taking on a public role as time goes on.

@@511robyno He also doesn't have the jealousy that Andrew had. Andrew always resented being younger than Charles. He tried to promote William over Charles later on. Edward I think is far enough removed from the possibility of the throne that it didn't seem to cause him the same problems. He seemed more adrift when he was young than anything else. He wanted to make his own way with the production company but had no real ability to make it happen on his own. I think Elizabeth and Phillip were pretty awful parents all around, even as she was a good queen. That family was not functional at any level. It's not done them any favors in the longrun. I suspect the generations preceding them were just as bad but modern media has opened all of this up to much more scrutiny.

The Duke and Dutches of Edinburgh do not hide either of their children. They are an exceptionally ‘normal family’ as far as their duties will allow. Sophie was very close to the late Queen Elizabeth. I have personally seen the family at Sandringham (I live 10 mins away), and they are very approachable and friendly without any snobbery at all. I’m sure as James and his sister Louise get older we will see them blossom in to well rounded adults.I for one, look forward to seeing them and all the royal children doing the same.

James, the Viscount Severn has now inherited his father's title of Earl. The Crown is the only one to dispense these family titles, namely: Duke, Marquess, Earl, Viscount and Baron. When you see James wearing medals, they are his grandfathers war medals.

No, they are his medals, awarded by the late Queen to all members of the family to mark 50th, 60th and 70th Jubilees. He was awarded the 60th and 70th. If you wear anyone else's medals it is on the right breast. Other European monarchies also create dukedoms, grand dukedoms, comptes and marquis titles too. People are easily confused so please don't add to their confusion by disinformation

Both Charlie and Willie Windsor's climate and energy policy activism along with Charlie's support and complicity with the WEF doom the monarchy and the sooner that the British public wake up to this nonsense and stop paying for it the better.
