Thank you for respecting the composer's dynamic markings at 24:51. So many don't.

James' precision and exact interpretation of the score are simply unparalleled. Crystal clean articulation, you can literally hear single every note.

I scoured the internet for this performance once it got taken down because it is my absolute favourite interpretation of this concerto. I actually found it on the DSO archive but I’m glad to have it on KZbin so I can download it and not lose it again! I absolutely love this recording, it’s perfect!

You guys have to check out another blockbuster DSO KZbin concert with Augustin Hadelich performing the Paganini Violin Concerto 1 just after he received his Leduc del Gesu. Brilliant performance, just like his pal James performing here!

It amazes me every time how Mr. Ehnes is drawing the full spectrum out of every note, making every single note so so full of color of itself. And because of that, his double stops are so powerful. It feels like the moment when bubbles with a sheen of iridescent colors join together then bursting out wonders, but in a nonstopping way. Mr. Ehnes is the King of straight bow.

Local Detroiter here. Would have loved to have seen this live! The acoustics of our Symphony Hall are spectacular. The DSO really appreciates having talent like Mr. Ehnes perform here. One of Mr. Ehnes pals also enjoys performing here in Detroit, Augustin Hadelich. Mr. Hadelich played here just after receiving the Leduc del Gesu and performed a memorable Paganini Concerto 1. Mr. Ehnes plays beautifully here with his Marsick Strad!

IMHO this is a really superb performance of Mendessohn's most famous violin concerto. He left us this romantic era treasure shortly before his death at the young age of 38. Brilliant performance by both soloist and orchestra!

Mr Ehnes, great to see that you've done the groundwork to take control of your recordings so we can have them forever instead of watching them get taken down and having to hunt for re-uploads.

Too many unwanted accents by downbows specially at the beginning….specially on the ONE at the sixth bar which is where the phrase actually needs relaxation. Still a master!! A real master. I would suggest, the phrase has a cresc to the high G and then should get a little dim. Please, refrain yourself to tell me as always: can you play it better????? I can play it better in my brain…but you have to practice much too much to be able to play his repertoire in perfection as he normally does.
