Probably my favorite all time Ellroy quote Interviewer: "So what do you do in your spare time?" Ellroy: "I have deep intellectual conversations with stuffed animals from my youth."

@TheTinker19 Exactly. His ex-wife said that his politics, persona, etc. is "mostly bullshit" and when pressed by an interviewer, he laughed and basically agreed. It's funny how he just messes with people and they bite.

As a performance artist, Mr. Ellroy relegates G. Gordon Liddy , Alex Jones , and Anton Lavey to the kindergarten level.

Nick M Clearly I'm not the only one, as the guy above agrees. (I think( I don't know, they're just really hard to read and very pretentious, in that noir kinda way. I tried to study noir, and I really can't get into the genre at all. Maybe I'm too young or something, but it's not my kinda thing.
@1990-t1j
@1990-t1j 10 жыл бұрын
Too young probably. Nothing pretentious about noir. Especially Ellroy's stuff. Read something you feel happy with. Romance fiction?

Nick M I'm getting to where I can't stand fiction in general. And I"m slowly becoming convinced all the "non-fiction" is (are?) lies anyway.

The gig is up Ellroy lol. Love your books your writingstyle is fantastic. BUT you do own a computer, you do own a cellphone. Your ex girlfriend perhaps it's ex wife? Either way already told the public that you like to joke with interviewers and say you don't have any of those things, even though you actually do have them.

James Ellroy: "I don't give a shit about culture in any way" but your books and work are part of culture, therefore you don't give a shit about those? You may want to go lie in a dark room somewhat longer and consider that.

It's all part of his character.... if he is such an isolator why does he need the mass media and big publishing houses? why is he interested in selling his books by going to the major book events? and getting them to the big movie billboards he so much hates... total incongruence and arrogance.

Here's the issue: How can you make superlative statements like "He's the best artist ever" if you don't at least try to expose yourself to other artists. You just sound kind of ignorant at that point. Watch: "I only eat Spam. It is the best meat product ever. I've never had chicken, steak or swordfish. I have no reason to. Spam is the best there is."
@garyjthorn

Because making superlative statements is part of his schtick.

Ellroy is delusional....... The music of Beethoven is life-affirming...... Ellroy's is not... His career is founded upon negativity, upon which he cashes in.... Beethoven's work is multi-dimensional and spiritual....... Ellroy occupies a much smaller and predominantly negative universe...... There is no Ode to Joy in his body of work....... I dare you, James, to prove otherwise.
