James Haskell and Mike Tindall are back for episode 17 of House of Rugby where they discuss England's Six Nations win over Ireland in Dublin, Kyle Sinckler's wind-up, Johnny May's singing, Elliot Daly joins Saracens and why beating Scotland means more than anything.
They'll also look forward to Scotland vs. Ireland, Italy vs. Wales and England vs. France as round two approaches.

As an Irish fan I was dreading this weeks show but was actually a very balanced review of the game, Ireland were never as good as people made out and England never as bad, Super performance and the best team won. Agree with Tindall that Ireland need to show another way of winning. Thought Slade looked first class and has to have made 13 jersey his own.

Much of the kiwi press derided the England performance as average and boring, which is always good to hear as the last time that happened was in 2002/3.. But what a couple of Kiwi commentators did say was that Slades performance was reminiscent of Conrad Smith.. That's a massive compliment..

To be honest as an Englishman not many of us expected England to beat Ireland by 12 points and a bonus point, I think around 60 minutes the Irish panicked and started going to the air again as they've done in the past and we forced the Irish back line really well and gave them no time, I think the Scots will take the brunt of it now 😂

I think with sexton he hadn't played in a month and murray is coming back from a very serious injury (neck) and has not looked sharp at all since he has been back. The thing is they have both always just come back in for the big matches and performed so we had no reason to think they wouldn't. So when England put in that performance that no one expected and the two lads weren't sharp enough it just made it impossible to get on top at all. England played extremely well and deserved the win.

Following that depressing shit show at the weekend I was dreading this episode (a show which I like so I was both looking forward to it and dreading it at the same time) but I must say that's a very funny opening. Credit where it's due. Credit also to England's performance, which was, in truth, outstanding. One more thing, I always felt Tindall had a fair point: in fairness, he never said Ireland were shit, nor anything of the sort, his point was that they were limited, or at least that they played a limited kind of rugby, something that was clearly demonstrated at the weekend: what Ireland were doing was clearly not working (it was obvious after 40 minutes that they needed to change up for the second half if they were to have any hope of competing) and yet, as Tindall says, they didn't have a Plan B (Plan B was to do more of Plan A but to do so with different personnel). PS: had Ireland not scored that Cooney try at the end (i.e., had the score stayed at 13-32) England would have been second in the World Rankings on Monday morning (credit the 1014 crew's review of the weekend's games for this interesting tidbit).

There seems to be an interesting dichotomy in international rugby. Every year there are these championship tournaments and autumn and summer test friendlies, which are great viewing for fans, however, every 4 years is the big prize, the World Cup, and this is the tournament that really matters. It takes 4 to 6 years to plan and prepare a team for the World Cup, and these yearly games are just part of that prep work. Not much can be looked into these games as far as just being warm ups and training sessions for the big tournament. I’m not saying that these players aren’t putting in a hard day’s work, they most certainly are, because in order to play hard, you’ve got to train hard. Just don’t lose your cool about your team losing or winning, learning is the key now for these teams, and if they learned anything from these yearly games then you’ll know it when it comes to the big show, the Rugby World Cup.

watching this just before England v Wales this afternoon. Laughed out loud at Tindall's FU comment at beginning! 😂 and at all the stories! As a middle aged, female Irish fan who enjoys the game and has glowed in the reflected glory of being European and 6 Nations Champions I was embarrassed by our performance against England. My take on it was that England took our game and stuffed us with it! So disappointed that we didn't have a plan B or C. BTW - what Eddie O'Sullivan says is BS - arrogance is a quality reserved for youse England lads! 😂

well done to England - you really did a number on us paddys. i must admit i was shell-shocked at how well England performed and not that Ireland were poor per say , they just didnt hit the mark then again it was all Englands doing - suffocating irish ball - they were ferocous at the breakdown and their line speed was killer...ireland couldnt deal with it. i think the INTENSITY england brought choked ireland coz if you look at the body language of ireland in contrast to england.....they were fairly subdued. there were a number of factors in englands favor and not in irelands favor in terms of players back from injury on form for england versus irelands not perfoming and a few selection concerns - my biggest was was Henshaw at 15 and i was right - im not saying ireland would have won with Kearney bit i can assure you that when Farrell kicked to the air he would not have found GRASS every time like he did saturday....henshaw cant read the play and cover the wings like Kearney can. England attacked Ireland the way Ireland attacked New Zealand in November last.......there are so many parallels with both performances. rest assured MIKE ireland are not a bad team after just one game.....we will bounce back but this was a wake-up call that we needed i feel just to stay sharp and fresh - winning can make a team complacent and i think thats what happended to England last year.....it really does come down to "on the day". i think if Ireland had brought the same intensity and had been more intelligent in their play they could have at least got parity of not won the game coz we have been up against a big, physcal England before adn beaten them.......just one of those things. Congrats to England and good luck for both 6N and WC - beware of the limping celtic tiger ;)

Ger Gemini mate, I absolutely hate the Irish team and passionately want them to lose, but only because of the hatred they have for us. The English generally don’t mind the celts; what we do hate is when the celts go beyond the usual banter to demonstrate real hatred because of something the normans started 800 years ago. I’ve been to Ireland many times and for the most part I love it- I struggle with IRA or Sinn Fein paraphernalia in some pubs and the aggression shown. I don’t care what side you sit on - catholic or Protestant, the demonstrative show of a take to arms always leave me with a sour taste in my stomach. But, and this is a huge but, when I see a post like yours it completely softens my attitude and I find myself not wanting Ireland to lose this weekend. We’re pretty fickle creatures in England.

Love hearing the Brits get fired up 6 months out from the WC. We were out thought and fought in Dublin. True as God. But to simply say. yeah now England will march on beat all before them is laughable. Ireland and NZ have such strength in depth right now. Its hard to look past a NZ v IRE WC Final. Sorry guys. Eng to lose valiantly in the semis I reckon...... Joe Schmidt and Steve Hansen are master NZ tacticians and Eddie Jones is a puffed up little Ozzie twat. Full of wind. Without the Vunipolas or Farrell , England are average at best. Ireland have 2-3 player in every position that can do a number on the very best. Roll on September and we'll see whose laughing.

Love these videos, Hask is always great value. I think the Irish underestimated England and also underestimated the loss of Rob Carney at full back. Farrell and Youngs kicks found grass with alarming regularity. As an Englishman living in Ireland I’ve been quietly waiting for this win for a long long time. Many in the Irish media have lost the run of themselves and are almost turning into a green version of the English media. One fella on Off The Ball recently claimed that England won a WC playing 10 man rugby !,!!!!!
@jonnybaynham1689
@jonnybaynham1689 5 жыл бұрын
Off the Ball are full of shite. Eddie O'Sullivan on there as a guest speaker saying 'Ireland just have a better team than England,' and quotes like 'get used to being superior.' So much trumped up ego and that channel exists just to get views by provocation or Irish ego stroking. Ireland still have a class team, and I'm a huge fan of many of their players, but they underestimated England and they will not perform at the World Cup the way they want to without sorting out some more variety in their game. Having said that, I'm confident they will have a great six nations campaign.

Hear hear. If its any consolation their coverage of other sports (GAA, Irish soccer) is equally provocative. They talk shite across the board. Unfortunately, given their popularity, they drive the narrative over here. People hear EOS, BOD (he said only Vunipola would make the Ireland team!!!!) etc and they accept it; worse, they regurgitate it. I told all and sundry i thought England would win because they had more to prove and were virtually full strength for a change.........i was laughed out of it.

Tindall was a bit more subdued on the Irish vid. England probably deserved the win, although the tactics of battering players with late and likely illegal hits is not he way forward for rugby. Ireland were caught cold by Englands line speed and should have adjusted. But over the top hits to take people out of the game with injuries should not be applauded.
