It's one of the weaker songs, for sure. To be honest, they should have left it off the record, along with Am I Savage?, Murder One, and Confusion. Those 4 should have been on a subsequent EP a'la Beyond Magnetic. Had they done that, Hardwired would have been a leaner, much stronger record.

This is a great song, a lot more could have been made out of it. I think it suffers from having a really crummy video that doesn't do it any justice. All the more unfortunate with this song having the potential to have had a really poignent video too. The solo is one of my favorite Metallica solos and I've been listening to Metallica for about 35 years. They made a video for every song on this album, it seems as though they were worn out with videos when it came to this one's and they just couldn't be bothered.

Rather then counting them in he's allowing his fellow professional musicians to feel the tempo and then tap along during the PRACTICE session. If you look to the live section of this video there is no drumming at all during that part. I miss the days when people would think before opening their mouths.
