Did you know that in the sixties and seventies, big stars of ITV the commercial station in the UK were restricted from appearing in commercials on ITV due to conflict of interest, with the regulator not happy with ITV celebs promoting products on ITV. BBC celebs however were not restricted, and so this is why a lot of BBC stars appeared in commercials on the rival channel ITV back then. Strange times.

@@philyerperps2917 Yes, as considering the salaries the BBC offered stars at that time were very low. For example in 1972, an actor starring in a big BBC sitcom role could earn £1,000 per episode. If that same star was working on a sitcom for ITV it was £5,000 an episode. ITV paid more salary but you could not do commercial TV advertising which paid a HUGE amount to big stars to appear in.

Based on the car number (7 instead of 1), I think this is from 1978, not 1977. Still, great ads both!
