Truly a Scholar king. How appropriate that it was he that brought about the most published and popular book in the history of the English language the KJB.

Thank you for this fascinating, memorable and very informative lecture. This is one of the most outstanding of the many history talks I have listened to and has cheered me up a great deal prior to the start of the second UK lockdown.

His mother Mary queen of Scott’s was extremely wealthy and had a lot of jewels that impressed ambassadors from all over. It’s amazing how quickly things must have escalated.

Have enjoyed Simon's lecture series - although Royston is on the A10, not on the A1(Great North Road).

08.25 The duchy of Holstein was not an electorate of the Holy Roman Empire, the duchy of Schleswig did not even belong to the Empire. The Danish kings only happened to be dukes of Schleswig and Holstein and kings of 🇩🇰Denmark simultaneously.

Hi Simon. Thanks for talking about Royston! Just to let you know, the image of the church you've used, is actually the church from Royston, Barnsley, not the Hertfordshire one

A very interesting lecture. However addition to the wrong photograph of the church the King of Denmark was not, as Duke of Schleswig and Holstein, an Elector of the Holy Roman Empire

It's been known for a long time. His letters with George Villiers, who he made the first Duke of Buckingham, survive and contain references to their romantic and sexual relationship. In one 1623 letter James calls George his "sweet child and wife". It's referenced even in older books like "The Romance of George Villiers" from 1906, though it's seen as a negative trait there. Multiple contemporaries at court, such as Sir Edward Peyton and John Oglander, commented on their physical closeness and public kissing in their diaries.

Anne of Denmark was DANISH - not a French Princess 🤣
@gmailbox90844 жыл бұрын
This was a reference to the fiancee of James V, not to Anne of Denmark.
@RonJohn633 жыл бұрын
"A French Princess" was *the other option* for James to marry. That was made pretty clear.
