I don't think James Ingram could sing a bad song. His voice is one of the most soulful ever and his music lives on forever.

Holy moly James was such a great singer...RIP...what a wonderful duet. I also love "How do You Keep the Music Playing", Patti Austin and James Ingram's other duets, so beautiful. It later got an amazing treatment from the one and only Tony Bennett!

Yes, we lost James much too soon. I loved his songs. He made the perfect duet partner with any female singer. His soulful voice is amazing. Again, another song I grew up with. Thanks for taking me back to a much warmer time for music. 👍👍

This was originally released in 1982 and peaked at #73. A year later the soap opera General Hospital started using it as Luke and Holly's theme song and it shot to #1.

Both James & Patti were seasoned, in-demand studio vocalists. They were able to seamlessly transition from lead vocal to backing vocal - alternating between each other without 1 overshadowing the other. Beautiful voices and masterful vocal control. RIP James Ingram - you are missed! Peace. 🙏🙏🙏

Quincy’s genius on display. This is definitely “Fire & Ice”. You have Ingram’s soulful midwestern gospel connecting with Austin’s polished NYC session singing. I believe Ingram also played keyboards on some of Q’s stuff. Incredible musicianship🎼🔥

One of my all-time favorite love song, and easily one of the greatest R&B/soul duets of all time (not only the 1980s). And thank God the producers of 'General Hospital' decided to use it in a key scene of that soap. Because otherwise, most people would never have heard it. When it was first released in early 1982, it flopped on the pop singles chart (peaking at a lowly No. 73 on the Billboard Hot 100). But thanks to 'General Hospital,' the song got a second chance, which was the charm. A huge No. 1 hit single on both the pop and adult contemporary charts in early 1983.

Patti Austin. One of the most underrated female soul singers from that era. The problem back (a good problem) then there were so many talented, female artist outstanding voices. I believe Patty didn’t get the credit she deserved. As for James Ingram, the man was a legend and will be missed. Of course the producer of this song, other than legendary Quincy Jones.
@gabrielmcdonnell869911 ай бұрын
You’re right: when Patti released “Baby Come To Me” and started recording as a Quincy Jones stalwart, the R&B female talent roster throughout the 80’s was expansive. Patti was contending with the likes of Stephanie Mills, Phyllis Hyman, Evelyn King, Anita Baker, Angela Bofill, Regina Belle, Vesta Williams, Angela Winbush, Miki Howard, Shirley Murdock, Meli’sa Morgan, etc. I wouldn’t say Patti was unsung; she was reliable and the industry respected her vocal gifts.
