This is still my favourite Kelman, though Kieren Smith, Boy is a close second. And the short stories, of course. By the way it wasn’t this novel that won the Booker, though it was shortlisted in 1989. It was How Late It Was, How Late that won in 1994.

Yes I have a Spanish translation first edition. I am Cuban American and found this book at my mother's house she's never read it. I'm at your channel because of this book lol

@@Ruffwun Amazing!!!!! i have learnt something new today. you should try get the original version as its written mostly in scots. would be fascinating to know if it had been translated well.

@@LaurensCorner I will check with my local library and borrow it.. I'll read both versions and see if the Spanish translation is accurate. I will let you know! I might have a tough time with Scots dialect.. I did read Filth which is outstanding I enjoyed it very much.

@@Ruffwun Irvine Welsh is quite the writer, and not to everyone's taste but without Kelman's influence he likely wouldn't have gotten very far writing in our native Scots, although i will point out every area has its own Scots accent and variation on the dialect too. Kelman has an East Glaswegian accent and dialect. Much different to someone from Edinburgh or up in the north from Aberdeen. A lot of comic book writers such as Grant Morrison, among others famous in both DC/MARVEL titles are from Scotland.
