How lucky you are to have this great tenor and, more importantly, great man for a father. I met him personally in Munich in the 70s and he was extraordinarily kind to me. I'll never forget him. He was such a wonderful man. He had a great influence on me. Oh, and by the way, this clip is thrilling and, as others have said, a big tease. What happened to the rest, I wonder....

Great to hear him sing so well in a role he was less known for and with the best Cio-Cio-San of that era. Do you perhaps have the full duet starting at "Bimba dagli occhi pieni di malia?"

the best Cio-Cio-San of that era? Renata Scotto!

Heard James King several times 1977-1994 at the Met and San Francisco Opera: a total pro, and have not heard his superior as the Kaiser in FRAU OHNE SCHATTEN or Siegmund.

There will never be a Kaiser to match him. He truly owned that role.

Does anyone know where the recording of King singing Psalm 91 went? My favorite King clip.

Just stumbled on this today. First thoughts? King is just doing King things. Such a wonderful tone with a gorgeous metallic timbre full of light reflections. Moffo though.. Accepted wisdom is that by the 70s her voice was in decline and there are certainly some recordings where there is evidence of this. However, in this short excerpt, I hear very little evidence of it. The voice sounds very secure in the high notes and there is an ease of production. Perhaps the voice was more temperamental at the time of her career but I'd take this performance over any Butterfly of the last 30 years.
