About five or six years after this Barenboim was doing a concert ‘Elektra’ in Chicago. His tenor fell ill at the last minute, and somebody remembered that Mr. King was teaching at IU. They called him up and made him an offer he couldn’t refuse, even though he was worrying about his musical memory and his knees. In the event he was in very good form and made no detectable mistakes - and he reported lecturing Alessandra Marc about her size.
