A shield is a good idea for defense against a machete, in self defense videos against knife attack they never mention using the most obvious shield someone might have on them when walking around, a back pack.

I have found that the M1942 US pattern machetes have some of the best steel and hold an edge like no other , the ones with the "Saw back" do have a tendency to break . The break starts at the bottom of the sawtooth and will run right to the cutting edge of the blade , this takes a millisecond to happen if it does happen , I have had this happen to me twice cutting brush in the last 50 years , I have also had the handle crack and break off once on a US Army machete ( no sawtooth ) but I was able to epoxy it back together with no further issues , the non-sawtooth machetes , in my opinion , are the better of the two . Harbour Freight machetes will not hold an edge for long and will never break because the steel is too soft , they will bend however .

@@inthesegoingsdown The good US Army machetes from WWII to Vietnam ( "Ontario" ) have some of the best steel and will start at around $ 60 and go on up from there , but if your using one all day its worth the exter money the edge will stay sharp all day and as long as your not cutting dirt the edge will hold up for months . We keep ours so sharp that you can shave with them . Go find a real one and try it out , You are not ever going with a cheap one after trying the real deal 👍

In getting my widow sister back east from Arizona, we had to resort to renting a trailer from a supermarket-sized Mexican budget store. There were straw cowboy hats with black bands reading (in the brand's font) "Mariboro". There were also machetes for $7.

Airsoft drills sounds awesome. A old trusty tire spoon would probably be too heavy as well, similar to those pry bars, but it’s another option as well.
