Well I can certainly support James May in the fact that I never ever feel more as a proper man than when I drive my TR6. My wife hates it!

Back in the late 70’s I met my wife on one of these beauties. My kids were conceived in it, I built a garage for “Sophie” but Sophie outlast my wife and now is just the two of us....

James, if you are reading this many years later... my lovely and very petite Chinese-American wife used to drive our Saffron colored TR6 to her job at a Hospital (she was an RN) for her swing shift at 2pm, then drive it home in the dark at 11pm. 4 speed with over drive. She loved driving it. So do I. Cheers mate!

I've had over 245 cars and 35 motorcycles. I've had 3 TR6s. I know I'm going to own a fourth. I know how to set them up. I've had Austin healeys, MGBs, a Jag V12. 3MGAs, one I owned twice. The TR6, power brakes, 4-wheel independent, big enough but small enough, low maintenance cost, reliability, 4 speed with overdrive, Koni's on the front, three quarter valves in the lever shocks on the rear, 205/70R15 Michelins. Carburetor heat shield. Within its power band on a windy road, you can play those pipes, best English car ever built. Second choice is a 67 MGB. I've owned some brutal cars, the TR6 is elegant.

Its one of the nicest british open sportscars to my opnion. Would love to drive one. It looks like a well balanced lightweight car with a beautiful 6 inline. Theyre quite rare in Holland. Used to be more spitfires over here.

It was a tongue-in-cheek review, like so many Top Gear shows. Not meant to cause offence, truly. I own one. They are very harsh to the ears - the sweet note of the exhaust is lost to all the forward noise found coming from the engine bay. It is uncomfortable to drive, steering is tough, handling is poor. Brakes are laughable, acceleration modest. I will never sell "Tia" (get it?) whilst enjoying top health. She has appeared on TV shows and is a loud yellow with a blue double-duck hood, with full leather seats and boot and dash. It IS a classic car and I rightly forgive its lack of refinement. Mine is a fuel injected British car and today is valued at £25/35k. Things break or fall off, so you have to love these triumph gems. I am getting older and would only sell this when I can no longer bend into its unforgiving seats. Otherwise I drive a MB.

Ontario Canada here... Fun video thanks I'm now pushing 68yrs been married to the same girl for over 40 years. The day we met I was passenger in my buddies Midget and she pulled up beside us in an MGB with a smile brighter than it's orange paint. Over the years we have had several B's and BGT's and Triumph Spitfires. A friend's mother had bought a TR6 new in 1971...it was her car and daily driver. Sadly the export TR6's did not get fuel injection and performance suffered greatly. Our mg's were mid 60's models and easily kept up with the TR6's on this side of the pond. Perhaps the author just needs to dig a little deeper and do a bit of research on women back in the day. Check out British Leyland's advertising from back then...it clearly includes lots of women and girls driving their cars...not just eye candy in the passenger seat. Today's cars are more comfortable, faster, and stop better but something has been lost along the way...fun!

Have you noticed that lawnmower adverts always have a woman using them? Although, mowing has traditionally been man's work. The ad' tries to say "Even a woman can use this"

owned a 1971 for a few years back in mid seventy's. Had a wild one ask me if I ever did it in a sports car. I didn't. She showed me. Had to over to the pass seat. One night we had a ice storm for many miles the roads were solid 1 in or more of ice. You could ice skate for miles literally. I was the only one that could drive home. Balanced with radial tires. Independent suspension.

I had a '73 (at least I think it was '73) with the 150BHP engine and overdrive on 2nd/3rd and 4th gear. It was a rather stunning purple colour. This would have been in 1988. Had to sell it for some reason I can't recall, but I truly loved that car, the only one I now regret selling and I have had some classics inclding 3 Capris 1600 Mk1, 2.0S Mark 2 and a 2.8i, as well as a Fiat X1-9 and a Fiesta XR2.
