Those aluminum crutches like he was using are quite annoying since they click every time you make a step... The wooden ones are a lot more solid and I prefer them... I spent a couple of years on them after a motorcycle accident many years ago... Eventually, I got to the point where I could easily travel faster that someone doing a very fast walk on flat pavement, but stairs REALLY SUCKED (especially going up them)... Narrow hallways would slow me down because it's easy to catch the crutches on something and then you just fall like a tree forward...

@@Veyron722skyhook -- The wooden type were also height adjustable... They were just not as *quickly* adjustable... Instead of just pushing a button and allowing them to slide to the new height, you had to unscrew the wingnuts, remove the bolts that went through the holes, move the pieces to the new positions, and then reinstall the bolts... You typically only did this when you needed to fit them to a new person, but it did take a bit more time than the aluminum ones...

Ditto, but my nemesis was going down flights of stairs, bloody terrifying. For anyone that cares, wooden crutches are height adjustable too, via two wing nuts, two bolts and a number of holes.

I was on crutches for about 6 months and only one of my crutches clicked, that was even worse! Stairs were horrible but my worst nightmare was escalators!

Jeremy made it to the falls directly by road, Richard and Hammond had no straight way to reach the finish line by air, hence they got delayed but if they took a straight flight to Niagara falls by a really fast parachuting plane and did a parachute jump near the shores of the falls, they would have probably beaten Jeremy's supercar.

As a Canadian that has taken the plane to Buffalo, NYC, Toronto and Montreal and has driven from NYC to Montreal and Buffalo to Toronto and Toronto to Montreal, Toronto to Niagara Falls, I can tell you that given the police state that Ontario, Ohio, NY state are, Jezza made a miraculous journey that proves that indeed sometimes the car is faster. The high-speed train is faster from Shanghai to Beijing too given how far the airports are from the city. The train from Montreal to Toronto is also faster by an average 1 hour due to the traffic and 90 mph speed of the train vs the plane or driving, downtown to downtown.

(apologies for my serious reply) Agree with you that USA is better set up for disabled people. Our 'dropped kerbs' aren't always dropped far enough - ever been launched forwards/out of your chair (depending on whether you use a belt) when the wheels hit the kerb, rather than roll up them? I have - too many times to count. Or gone up a dropped kerb to find that there isn't one at the other end? Pavement surfaces can be poor in the UK and I've shed tyres through uneven pavements. In the USA, if you use a handicapped parking space without a permit, you can have your car towed. Whereas over here, a lot of people think that disabled people don't need the wheelchair spaces outside fast food restaurants or supermarkets, especially later on in the day (we aren't all 80+yo and go home early). I can't get out of my car if it's not in a wide bay. There's more assistance over in the USA and access through shops is easier. Unfortunately, thanks to lots of our UK buildings being very old, it isn't easy to fit ramps and lifts. In the UK there are people who are really helpful and accommodating (and I thank all of them), but there's still places where you're viewed as a nuisance. Luckily, Richard's mobility issues were temporary. He's been very lucky to have avoided permanent mobility problems. Though I suspect that he does have more than his fair share of aching joints, especially when he gets up. Plus his old head injury may still be giving him headaches and memory issues for all we know. Stay safe and well everyone - no Covid, no accidents, no diseases.
