What I love about British movies is that it's a lot less hypocritical and a lot more bold than American movies. You can take any US movie, you will always have this "politically correct" part that makes a movie like that almost impossible to release there without some kind of editing.

I can't wait for this movie. The story is so sick and depraved yet somehow really touching... And James as Bruce... I have a strange kink that involves seeing my favourite actors playing bad guys, especially when they usually look cute and unassuming..

It is a great movie, and I enjoyed seeing James be a naughty boy. The end broke my heart he was in so much pain.

James, love, didn't anyone ever tell you it's rude to eat while being interviewed? lol! Kidding. He's such a charming and real person he could dance around in tighty whities, swearing profanities and he'd still manage to charm his way into every cynics' heart.

0:00 No, you don’t want to be his friend, you don’t want to know him, you don’t want to be him. But you want to watch him or read about him, in a novel, on stage or on screen. Very much in the mould of Richard the third or Iago. People who are murderers and abusers and at times very funny. Real manipulators, Machiavellian types and this guy is very much in that tradition but in the 1990s, Edinburgh as seen through his drug-addled gaze. 0:43 Is it a big challenge to do this role for you? I always think that the biggest challenge is the script and if the script is really good, you have not got too many problems. I don’t really feel that this script is in any way bad, it’s the best thing I’ve read in the last couple of years and that alone makes this job for me I think a lot easier. You have to go extreme places, but it’s easier to go to an extreme place when you’re certain what the script is asking for than it is to go to an ambiguous sort of mid-range place that really what are we doing? What story are we telling? This script is so bold and so clear that there’s never really fear that you don’t know what you’re doing so that makes it easier in a lot of ways. 1:29 What makes Irvine Welsh so special? His love of patter, his love of conversation, his love of dialect and distinct asset ease of regional dialect I think is one of the things. Also, his willingness to explore the depths whilst retaining a great sense of humour is something that makes him very special and very unique on this planet. There isn’t another writer like him, he is very of himself. He doesn’t belong to Scotland or Edinburg he belongs to the world because there’s only one like him and I think he’s really special because of that.

@klyana130 Depends on the role too. They can't change the nationality of characters like Wesley Gibson or Frederik Aiken. The only part he could have played as a scotsman would be Johnny in Penelope. I can totally imagine him as this charming Scottish chap. Nice thing he gets to keep his accent in both Trance and Filth.

No, it's not that clear looking at the OA footage - she's smiley and he's more serious. Seen pics of other celebs who look far more in love than they do. But he should adore her anyway, they ARE married. Celeb marriages are no more special than anyone elses marriage. They are no more in love or in adoration of their partner than the rest of us mere mortals!!!

C'mon is quite clear he adores her. And why does it matter so much that Anne Marie is older than he is? Maybe a cultural thing becasuse I'm mexican and for us is so well, normal...or not important at all.

I know he was in Sweden because I see the undertitles are Swedish. Did they film anything in Sweden? It couldn't had been for the movie Filth. I just got a bit confused because of the way James talks about the surroundings at the end

He did film in Sweden for Filth but it was only for a couple of days and it was studio shots. Sweden partially financed the movie so they had to film there at some point.

Okey. Thank you for your answer. I saw the movie Filth a couple of days ago. I'm trying to watch some of James work. I've known who he is before but it wasnt until last year I really looked him up after watching the amazing movie The last King of Scotland. Also I visited Scotland last year- Edinburgh and I fell in love with Scotland ❤️ James is amazing! That accent, his humor and charm. Lots of emotion in Filth, he's impressive as Bruce 🌟 I'm happy to see some of it was filmed in Edinburgh 😍 I so want to go back to Scotland

I agree that he's not wearing his ring for the role, but if you're talking about The Olivier Awards then the pictures were of her looking more adoringly at him than the other way around. Not saying there is anything going on, just that they weren't the most romantic pics I've seen of a couple. Me and my other half look more luvvy dovey than they did... sorry, but it's true. She may be a nice person, but she looks way too old for him. Sometimes she looks like his mother!

If you don't want a "bland, dull" (those two words are synonymous so using both of them is superfluous) movie, than steer clear of mainstream blockbusters and watch independent films instead. And if you think TV quality has gone down since the 80s, you need to invest in cable. Breaking Bad, The Wire, The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Homeland, Deadwood, Sons of Anarchy, Boardwalk Empire, Mad Men, Game of Thrones, etc. are some of the greatest shows ever created. Your self-loathing isn't cute.

Ouch. I think US writers and producers sometimes assume US audiences can only relate to US characters, but it's been proven time and again to be DEAD WRONG. Look at Downton Abby--Americans are going crazy for it. Slumbog Millionaire was huge here. You know, James once said in an interview that European filmakers try to "dumb down" movies to appeal to Americans and that usually ends up blowing up in their faces. You don't know us as well as you'd like to think--your ignorance is showing.

What are you even talking about? You sound like a self-loathing American. If the movie is taking place in America, and the character is supposed to be American, than the character should have an American accent. End of story.

This movie will not make it in the US. You are not a Bruce Willis. And that nerdy guy playing the criminal is not believable--yes, a step above Jolie. However, James, bring on the period pieces, wherein, you can show off your unbelievable acting skills. Not many KNOW how to BECOME of the divine state. And keep your accent in these thrillers for ------ sake!!!! Yes, I know you do what comes across your plate.

If you are referring to SPLIT, I think you are wrong. It is the second installment of a 3 part story. UNBREAKABLE was the first, SPLIT the second and next January the third, GLASS. MvAvoy does a wonderful job of doing the multiples.

do you really think he’s gonna see this? Of course he’s not Bruce Willis, he’s James fucking mcavoy- would be bloody weird if he was anybody else. The only thing i agree with in ur comment is his unbelievable acting skills WHICH he shows off perfect in split and glass as well as all his other movies
