I don't think there's any doubt that JM was born in 1979. However there isn't a shred of truth in his birthday being 1st January. This all stems from a couple of years back when various websites started listing Jan 1st as a default date, as the actual date was still unknown. Then in April 2007 the associated press reported his birthday as being April 21st, by which time the false date had been spread accross the internet and beyond (as is evident from this clip).
