Boris comes from a class of people in the UK that never have to experience the consequences of their incompetence, when he eventually decides to go he'll make millions without ever having to make any effort or have any ability

Aren't they already? If any Tory had any integrity, wouldn't they immediately have punished Johnson for spitting in the face of the british public by partying when he instated rules whereby people couldn't even visit their dying family? I See it as you fear it; they have seen what opportunistic and immoral reign can achieve, and they have positioned themselves under these conditions instead of doing the right thing and axing Johnson, nay, never letting him hold power. Remember that it is an institution which allowed him to be what he was, and protected him far beyond what is decent. This is _definitely_ an institutional problem.

Of course they are. The clown might have left the stage but the circus is still in town. The rest of the Tories don't get to wash their hands of the mess they helped create just because they finally got tired of him.

It was not a rant. It was a passionate and measured assault on the most despicable Prime Minister in the entire annals of the office. This was a year ago and the inanity of his followers and the Mail, by the narrowly worst newspaper in our media and our tabloid newspapers are the most despicable in Europe. This was no mere rant,, it was a measured assault on a monstrous government until the next.

"Couldn't believe my own eyes" Doublethink is a process of indoctrination in which subjects are expected to simultaneously accept two conflicting beliefs as truth, often at odds with *their own memory or sense of reality*. "To know and not to know, to be conscious of complete truthfulness while telling carefully constructed lies, to hold simultaneously two opinions which cancelled out, knowing them to be contradictory and believing in both of them, to use logic against logic, to repudiate morality while laying claim to it, to believe that democracy was impossible and that the Party was the guardian of democracy, to forget whatever it was necessary to forget, then to draw it back into memory again at the moment when it was needed, and then promptly to forget it again, and above all, to apply the same process to the process itself-that was the ultimate subtlety: consciously to induce unconsciousness, and then, once again, to become unconscious of the act of hypnosis you had just performed. Even to understand the word-doublethink-involved the use of doublethink." Right!

Yes he has gone, but Johnson was just a small problem amongst so many. He leaves a country that is hurtling toward breakdown and penury. You asked the question "...how do we repair this burnt out house that is the UK..." You said no-one knows, and you are right. We will struggle along with our ideas of exceptionalism, and with the sheep of our electorate bleating on with the belief that we will always come out on top, and we will gradually take our place outside Europe, outside the G7, with a shrunken economy and a nasty, hatred filled media that will still be blaming immigrants and those who wanted to be part of a wider Europe. Where are the statesmen who can take charge? They don't exist, and because of that I feel utterly hopeless for the future and it hurts me to say that the last vestiges of pride in my country have now been carried off by the crooked spineless people in power today. Well you can keep it. I'm off.

We can't afford to be complacent. Johnson still thinks he's Churchill. Every word of his speech demonstrates he doesn't see himself as having gone and he believes he will be back.

Helen Proudfoot, Spot on. He didn’t mean what he said in the resignation speech. He never does. He will still be in power. sad day. I miss Jezza more than ever. He was the victim of bad press because he was a man of integrity, decency and law.

The party from which this prime minister belongs told us Britain's future lay closer to America, for this prime minister to describe exactly what part of America the Conservative wanted Britain to move closer to for many of the policies being issued in states where the Republicans hold power to find the burgeoning of parallels in the UK.

Thank you, Mr O'Brien for your articulate, wise and powerful summary. You're so right about Javid and Sunak's culpability too. So cynical of them. Do any of these people have the country at the forefront of their minds? Brilliant speech. Agree with everything you lay out here. The image of the fire extinguished but the house is charred is poignant and powerful. Boris has a worrying psychology - self serving, which is a flaw in anyone but a catastrophe in someone in high office.

I'm expecting the MSM (in general), to be praising Johnson and his time as PM like he is the Messiah tomorrow. It has already started in today's newspapers. Not always a fan of James but he has called it right on this video. Having watched the video a second time, the Politicians should be made to watch it themselves and reflect on each and every comment made by James.
