@@adpmac3981 Can I just take that and the OP and say that people with illiberal viewpoints, left and right, rarely support the notion of free speech outside of their own echo-chambers. They use labels like 'woke' or 'politically correct', which are malleable and thus meaningless, to define what they regard as unacceptable. Even the word 'liberal' has become a snarl term on both sides of the fence.

@whybother now Well the easiest example right now is the right wing government in the UK using public nuisance and safety laws to arrest anybody they like. Like journalists covering protests or people who were against monarchy at the queens funeral and just holding up signs. It has been a while since I followed U.S. politics so I don't remember all the examples but a big issue was any anti war message which was equated to anti military message or burning the flag etc. The government usually shows a bit more restraint (when it gets to the courts) although there are often police officers who don't understand this and go way too far. Colin Kaepernick asked a Marine what the most respectful way to protest during the national anthem was and he told him to kneel and he was absolutely vilified. He probably had more than half of his career still ahead of him but he hasn't played in The NFL anymore. This example is more about the principal of free speech than the right but it shows how as soon as something triggers them free speech goes out the window, it never existed. Also voter suppression laws are a favorite of right wing governments and voting is one of the most important forms of expression.

This is the inevitable fate of all social media. The only difference is that Twitter was high-profile and large enough to hold on a bit longer than most. As someone who was on the internet back in the days when this was all bespoke forums and when 4chan was still *the* cool place online, it has always been a constant cycle of people making a cool thing, the far-right finding and infesting it and either the moderation cracking down or the infestation getting so bad that everyone else leaves. The problem is that every time this would happen, there woul always be a few unsuspecting newcomers who came in too late to see the trend who would get suddenly exposed to a lot of right-wing hate and wouldn't be savvy enough to realise what was happening and would start to believe some of it. Gaming, anime and other hobby communities have always been the main targets for these sorts of attacks because they are mostly populated by young men who are often poor in social skills and socially isolated, the prime target for right-wing radicalisation. This has always been the right's strategy and it was only a matter of time before it was overtly attempted on a larger scale.

Twitter has had rules in place regarding parody accounts for some time and, presumably, they have been working well enough all the while. With everything else he has going on at the moment, he decided to change those rules so that offending accounts were immediately banned where they used to receive a warning first, despite his having previously claimed to be against permanent bans. This seems to have coincided with a spike in the number of accounts parodying Elon Musk specifically. Some people might say that there's more than a tiny possibility that there's more to this than meets the eye.

The thing with Musk is that the businesses he owns tend to succeed in spite of his input, not because of it. SpaceX for instance has triumphed due to its exceptional pool of forward-thinking engineers, not due to Musk's administration. He's just been canny enough to keep the money flowing when most entrepreneurs would have pulled the plug. He's so scattergun with his investment in new money ideas that it's just the law of averages that at least some of them pay off. Those who become enamoured with his successes have to wilfully ignore his ever expanding pool of failures, among which Twitter looks destined to be numbered. He has to work on that before he can get Bond villain status. For now he's more Joker than Blofeld.

Few people realise the potential end game of these projects.Without too many details. the thalamus and hypothalamus have minute features that geneticists are sure identify the development and presence of homosexuality. The reason/ cause is unknown although everything starts in the genome. What would concern me is the application of techniques being used to alter parts of the thalamus In order to effect a change. The recent comments from a Quatari spokesman about homosexuality being the consequence of a damaged mind rings alarm bells. A society that can afford anything and a propensity to lock up and even execute their own family members who do not comply to the Islamic code....... I'll leave the rest to you. Not saying that Musk would be part of any if this but he won't be around to control the process for ever. Silly sod will probably be driving a rally car on Mars

Hi Gregory, you should go on the macron chat on Mondays at 10pm, I'm the Nobby Guy on that one and on the voicemail segment. I don't think he was attacking Elon Musk but it was more of an attack on the right wing thinking mindests. I'm Sure James is attacking how misleading it is when someone says they are for Free Speech. I got confused myself as I was sayting to myself what do people want, is it not to get banned on Twitter, I don't believe free speech is a thing as such Check the GUardian article that mentios about Free Speech maybe being an illusion, people will always get called out even on Twitter, the persons boss might find out he said the N word on Twitter (etc) I thought free speech meant not getting arrested, but you are always going to be called out on things when discussing sensitive topics. When a right wing person talks about Free speech, it's very misleading I feel. Cancel culture is another misleading word as well I feel. I remember I had a discussion about this with my brother. IT should be called another name, like (called out) Smell you later.

Elon Musk is no different from any other free-speech warrior. They always forget two things. 1. Freedom of speech does not free you from freedom of consequence, nor does it free you from freedom of criticism. And 2nd.. "Everyone is entitled to an opinion, which is allowed. But it's an opinion that disagrees with mine, which isn't allowed..." And let's NEVER let him know how silly calling yourself "Chief Twit" is. He clearly never thought of the connotations when he first trumpeted it. Oh if only Twitter was called Twatter....
